The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 130

Saul lowered his head and rubbed his temples, reminding himself that he had to maintain his professional composure as chairman of the company.

"Garnett, Lavinia doesn't want any of that. You know damn well she didn't marry you for your money, and you only married her because she didn't care about your money."

He paused, looking up to meet Garnett's gaze with absolute, dead-serious calm. "Lavinia gave you her whole heart, and the facts have proven you don't care about her at all. Since that's the case, act like a man and make a clean break. Lavinia, myself, our parents—we don't want a single dime from you. We just want our family to be safe and happy."

Garnett's hands, which had been resting loosely on his thighs, instinctively curled into tight fists as he listened to Saul's lecture.

His chest heaved slightly as he glared at him. "'We don't want anything'—is that the script your family agreed on? Saul, are you the one constantly egging Lavinia on to demand a divorce?"

Saul shot him a look of absolute, exhausted disappointment. He was so let down he was practically speechless.

"I finally understand why Lavinia has been talking less and less lately." Saul paused. "There's simply no point in trying to communicate with someone who refuses to listen."

Saul stood up. "To tell you the truth, Lavinia went abroad. She accompanied my dad for his medical treatments."

"What?" Garnett was stunned.

Abroad? How could she make such a massive move without him knowing anything about it?

It clicked—she had asked him to help source a specific medication for her father, and Corinne had completely botched it by finding a knockoff. She must have been so furious she decided to cut him out of everything.

"Where did she go? The States? Japan? Europe?" Garnett demanded, panic bleeding into his voice. "She's just a woman. You let her go abroad by herself? Do you have any idea how dangerous it is out there?"

Saul faltered slightly; this lie was getting harder to cover up by the second.

He doubled down. "She has a whole team with her. What's there to be afraid of?"

"A team? What kind of team?"

"A medical concierge team." Saul stood up straight, signaling that the conversation was over. "I have work to do, so I won't be keeping you for dinner, Mr. Harper."

Garnett rose to his feet, shooting him a venomous glare.

"I passed. Barely, but I passed. Wait, why are you using Casey's phone?"

"Garnett was just here sniffing around for you. I told him you went abroad with my dad for his treatments."

Saul paused. "That guy has eyes everywhere and plays dirty. I was worried he'd pull my phone records to track you down, so I used Casey's."

"Hold on, let me put you on speaker. Charley is right here with me."

A few seconds later, Charley's voice drifted through the line.

"Saul, you made the right call. Garnett absolutely would have had someone monitor you to get to Lavinia."

Saul pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a massive headache coming on.

"I know. It's a good thing you preemptively transferred my dad to Marina Island for his treatments. Otherwise, that bastard would have definitely sent his goons to the hospital to stake out the place," Saul said.
