76 The Luna ball (3)
It was inevitable that there would be mayhem at any gathering, and there would be tears, blood, and grief to be shared. Although it was a sinister concept, it was unavoidable, just like death.
Rhaziel had pledged to guard the lycan till the end of his life, regardless of everything that had occurred and everything that will occur, and regardless of Nikolai Novikov’s character. He was standing in a corner of the boisterous, bright ballroom that was crowded with distinguished beings. Thankfully, not only wolf shifters were present, but it didn’t necessarily imply that there were other demons as well.
Everyone was grinning as they spoke to one another, and he found it repugnant that the majority of those smiles were completely false. He was already bored and extremely repulsed before the ball had even fully started. The minds of entities who desire power and wickedness. Rhaziel could very well feel a storm that was about to break out. Something was off.
As he shifted his position away from the wall, Nikolai appeared next to him out of nowhere. Dressed as the regal alpha heir in a powerful, sophisticated black and gold outfit that was appropriate for a powerful monarch.
“There is a difference between watching the ball and standing in a lonely corner.” Coldly, Nikolai said.
“I ought to advise you in the same way.” Rhaziel smiled and cast a sidelong glance towards Nikolai, who was leaning against the wall and casting a darkness in that particular spot. In the shadows, his ruby eyes glowed ferociously.
“Don’t compare us.” Nikolai murmured, his eyes grew more narrow. Although many individuals entered, his attention remained fixed on wanting

concerns.
Rhaziel simply rolled his eyes when he noticed that Nikolai was waiting for the dragoness. “It’s never a good idea to invite her to a family gathering.”
“Having her at a family gathering will keep me from wanting to rip their heads off,” Nikolai snorted.
Rhaziel gave a nod. “True.”
“That irritating fairy is here!” Nikolai grumbled.

er name is Esmeralda.” Rhaziel deadpanned and leaned against the wall.
Nikolai rolled his eyes. “I could care less,”
Esmeralda and Ophelia walked over to the food-laden table, and Rhaziel smirked as he watched them. In an effort to avoid being seen, they were pointing at the cakes while looking around.
Astonished, Rhaziel. “What the…”
“Hell.” Rhaziel and Nikolai both exhaled with expressions of amazement and
amusement.
Prior to cutting another larger slice of cake and placing it on Esmeralda’s plate, Ophelia was the first to cut a sizable piece of cake. They were the only people in the entire ball who were eating, and numerous eyes were on

them while they did so carelessly. Their stomachs were all that mattered to
them.
“So she enjoys eating, too.” Rhaziel made a slow nod.
“Only foodies recognize foodies” Clicking his tongue, Nikolai murmured.
The ambience of the ball was created by classical music. The hall was filled with merry discussion and laughter, and soon waltzing couples were taking over the dance floor. ‘However, the majority were single.
When they had finished their last bite of cake, they wiped their mouths with napkins, sighing contentedly.
“I warned you the cakes are good,” Esmerelda chuckled.
“They are.” Ophelia smiled as she scanned the beautifully large, brightly illuminated room with her eyes.
As they started to leave the food table, Esmeralda muttered, “You seem to have gotten close to the Novikovs,” peering at her friend with great interest.
“Close” is not the word I would use to describe it.” Ophelia exhaled, wishing to steer clear of the subject. She wanted to listen intently and search for anything that seemed off.
“Psh!” Esmeralda smacked her lips before grabbing Ophelia by the arm and dashing wildly through the mob of onlookers. Ophelia allowed Esmeralda to drag her all the way to the dance floor, her eyes wide.
“Let’s go! We should dance.” Ophelia grinned, shaking her head as she laughed. She has missed Esmeralda who had not changed at all. Despite being a dark fairy, Esineralda was a total sunshine. Ironic.
Esmeralda swirled with delight as she said, “Alright,” and Ophelia twirled with laughter

They twirled simultaneously, holding hands, bursting into laughter.
Many others were captivated by the two stunning women who played and danced on the dance floor. The majority of people stared out of intense curiosity, most of them chuckled in amazement, most of them were disgusted.

Grabbing Ophelia’s arms, Esmeralda squeaked. Wide-eyed, Ophelia ered around as several couples hurried to the dance floor.
nce there were so many, Ophelia had to yank Esmeralda off the dance oor as she watched the couples start dancing with exuberant enthusiasmn and smiles on their faces. Ophelia giggled, covering her mouth with her hand as she watched powerful spins and amazing leg work.
“Oh my!”
“Let’s go!” Ophelia was being pulled towards the dance floor by Esmeralda when she suddenly felt a hot hold on her wrist and was wrenched away from her. Esmeralda was also yanked away from Ophelia.
Ophelia squeaked as she felt a hand snaking around her waist, stopping her body from clashing with his. The warmth! His soothing, masculine minty
scent.

“Nikolai.” She exhaled and cocked her head in his direction. Gods! He was gorgeous! His hair was braided in two, highlighting his stunning features. His crimson lips twisted into an amused smirk, and those crimson eyes burned with unbridled passion.
When he muttered “Ophelia,” she nearly melted in his arms.
“Hey! Release me! Help me, Ophelia!” From behind her, Esmeralda yelled. She made it sound like she was being abducted.
Ophelia looked at her friend, who was being restrained by the waist by Rhaziel from behind. Rhaziel appeared to be making an effort to keep her motionless as she continued to struggle in the direction of Ophelia.
Nikolai’s face darkened. He was wasting his time with the annoying fairy, and as usual, his FireStorm worried for her. She was attempting to jerk free of his grip!
“Esme..” She paused and turned to face Nikolai, who had a displeased expression, but she ignored him nevertheless. “Let go of me.”
“What?” Nikolai furrowed his brows.
“Esme is…”
“So? He doesn’t want to murder her!”
Esmeralda had stopped resisting and was gazing at Nikolai as if he had killed her entire family. “But you want to!” She fired at him.
“You are so incredibly obnoxious, that’s why.” Nikolai spoke bluntly.
Esmeralda let out a loud gasp. “How dare you? You are a sicko!”
“A bothersome fly.” Hersing and rolling his eyes like though she were a complete waste of time, Nikolai said.
Again, Esmeralda gasped. “Fly?! Fly?! You are a deranged dog!”

Dark light glistened in Nikolai’s eyes. “Diseased fly.”
Rhaziel and Ophelia were both staring at one other. They communicated by exchanging glances, asking one another to put an end to Esmeralda and Nikolai’s bickering.
Esmeralda. “A menace to society!”
Nikolai. “When I snap your neck, of course, you will be eliminated from society.”
