The Lycan's Forbidden Mate novel Chapter 45

Clad in a thick fuzzy grey cloak, Ophelia walked side by side with Nikolai who was elegantly donned in a black long coat that was crafted from icybright thread. Their footsteps were coordinated, making a loud impact on the marble floor and a smooth echo in the hallway. All eyes of the stationed guards and working maids were on them as they walked past them, despite the fact that they were expected to bow their heads and avoid making full eye contact. 1

There was a dragoness walking alongside their future Alpha as if they were equals, so of course they had to gape in disbelief. After all, Wolves and Dragons at war. 2

As soon as they left the castle, Ophelia shuddered and stopped walking because of how cold the weather was even with a cloak on. She sighed deeply in discomfort as her lips pursed.

This cloak isn’t doing me any good. She muttered as she encircled her body with her arms, to warm herself up.

She moaned loudly. Why has the temperature dropped so much?

There are many answers to that Fire Storm,” Nikolai answered, his voice low and solemn, his gaze fixed on the horizon. There was a forest up ahead, and then a glorious city that was currently being drenched in

craziness.

His hands were squeezed into tight fists that trembled with extreme instability, and a long, mournful smile curled on his lips. It was clear from the castle’s eerie calm that everyone had attended the combat tournament. Everyone, including his father, who was undoubtedly the most significant spectator.

I want to warm up, I’ll probably do that tonight.Ophelia spoke absentmindedly while fixating on her boots. Although she was having difficulties curling her toes as they felt like they were frozen, she was able to maintain a relaxed expression.

Nikolai turned to look at her. She was suppressing tremendous discomfort, which was obvious to him. No fire dragon, no matter how strong, could endure this harsh cold for an extended period of time. Dragons required heat, and they did so by temporarily enclosing themselves in their own flames. That is, until they felt better. Ophelia had to act quickly since, despite being dressed in such a thick, huge coat, she was unusually cold and at risk of becoming very ill.

Nikolai remarked, I’ll heat you up if you want, drawing Ophelia’s

attention back to him. Those wide eyes of hers made him smile and when he did, she blinked.

No, thank you.Nikolai observed chilly air bursting from her mouth and nostrils as she exhaled.

He arched his brow and grinned. Are you certain?

Shush! In a panic, Ophelia exhaled and turned her head away from him.

Nikolai reached out for her hood and tenderly covered her head. Yes ma’am.He said, after which he scooped her into his arms securely and started to descend the stairs.

He didn’t take long to reach the stable, which was at the far end of the castle grounds and was bordered by trees devoid of leaves but only sharp, pointy icicles. The structure was substantial, and the horsesneighs resounded incessantly.

Ophelia fixed her gaze on the structure. Standing in front of the stable’s entrance were two wolves who had to be the horse caretakers. They appeared alarmed. Not by her presence, but by Nikolai’s.

He placed her on her feet quietly and carefully, then surprised her by

reaching for her cloak and removing it. She shivered in total discomfort as

she became even more aware of the cold.

What are

Nikolai placed his fingers on her lips, cutting her off. Her eyes went wide and she jerkily slapped his hand away.

I’m freezing to death here! She erupted.

Smiling, Nikolai said nothing. He then moved his gaze to the startled looking horse keepers. His smile disappeared like it never existed in the first place, his gaze frigid and hollow.

Ophelia, who was still shivering from the cold, closed her eyes unconsciously as she was preoccupied to notice it.

Bring me my horse,As he ordered them, he removed his coat and watched as the keepers sprinted into the stable.

Don’t you want to go in?Ophelia questioned while keeping her voice steady. She tightened her teeth, pressing her thighs close together.

No.Nikolai placed his coat over her shoulders signaling her to open her eyes. She then dropped her hands and allowed him to assist her in donning the coat.

For some reason, it felt warmer and she adored his rich masculine scent that filled it. W..why?She asked hesitantly, casting a broad gaze his way.

Surrounded by walls will make me want to do things to you. With a strong sense of normalcy, Nikolai responded as though what he had just said was the most natural thing to say. He gave her a mischievous grin, letting her know that he was dead serious.

As she continued to stare at him without replying or blinking, he lowered

his head and drew his face closer to Ophelia’s till his breath was fanning her face. One more inch and their lips would touch. Crazy things that will heat you up.He said, his voice turning a bit dark.

Her luscious lips split, her cheeks turned crimson, and her hazel gray eyes darkened before changing to a comparable shade of midnight blue, all of which alerted him to the kind of thoughts she was likely thinking at the time. Just gazing at herhe couldn’t explain the strange sensation he always felt because of herIn an effort to prevent his body from acting on his thoughts, Nikolai clamped his bottom lip between his teeth.
