The Lycan's Forbidden Mate novel Chapter 43

Ophelia stiffened, her heart pounding rapidly against her chest in a way that it hurt. It had to hurt. The being in front of her gave her warmth just by his words and actions, warmth that she had never imagined she would feel. Having been trained as a weapon of murder and destruction, Ophelia had become accustomed to the reality that those around her will always

be distant. And that included her twin brother.

She was seen as a monster, used, exploited and had done things that were haunting her terribly. Things she was unable to control. Her life had always been chaotic, she had become numb to it and had not shed a tear in three centuries. No matter how hurt she was, how much pain she felt, Ophelia refused to cry. Tears solved nothing.

His words struck her and kept repeating over and over. Their proximity was something that she was beginning to cherish as it calmed her down. His wordsThose wordsThey were so sincere.. They were too good to

be true.

N.. no.Her voice was sluggish, confused, and full of denial and her hands rested his chest, pushing him away in the hopes that he would budge and

leave her.

Like I said, you know nothing. She only wanted to run away at that point, never to look back. She had hurt a lot of people. Both those who intended to hurt her and those who had no such intentions. She was aware that Nikolai posed a threat to Fireria, but she also knew that she could trust him and that he had no intention of hurting her. He didn’t deserve her and it was not in a good way.

I told the fire god that I control my own destiny, but I am also intelligent enough to know that the god was telling the truth. I feel nothing for you

Nikolai. Her voice was icy cold but every word she said was accompanied by a sharp heartache that caused her lips to tremble.

Ophelia..

Not liking her devastated behavior and emotions, Nikolai reluctantly placed his hands on her face in a gesture of reverence, resting them above her ears. Her cheeks were as cold as her voice. He watched those eyes flutter open, those dazzling hazel gray eyes filled with pain that struck him.

I don’t give a damn about what the moon goddess or the fire god have to say. Ophelia, you are my mate. You can’t allow the ghosts of your past define who you are today. Then he crept up and buried his face in her hair. Your denials won’t do anything to change itWhat you’ve been told is something my mother has been telling me for a while. We are responsible for our future.

Ophelia couldn’t believe her ears. The warmth she felt from him was calming her down. Her stiff breathing relaxed and that was when she realized that Nikolai must have been receiving the same prophecies that she was, only instead of dreams, Nikolai must have been hearing vivid words from his mother, the Luna of Celestia who was also an oracle. 2

Again, she could tell that she and Nikolai were weirdly similar.

Her fingers clenched tightly around his cloak. They are not denials, you are extremely annoying.” She mumbled. At that same moment, she felt him move but she was quick to tug his cloak making him halt his movement.

Nikolai chuckled deeply. He remained in his position, but this time he circled her waist and drew her into a warm, surreal embrace that caught her off guard. Don’t leave. He said, she froze.

Was he serious? Why was he affecting her in such a way? Was this the mate bond? Ophelia couldn’t explain the sensation. I.. for now..

Thank you.Nikolai breathed out in full relief and she gave in to his melting embrace, her pulse pounding frantically as joy erupted from within. One could say that she felt loved.

Nikolai’s eyes glimmered with relief. He was glad that he didn’t have to do anything harmful to make her stay. This was the first time he had tried to calm someone down and he was glad he was good at it. Feeling that she was comfortable with his embrace, he felt an indescribable swelling in his heart that he could not stop himself from smiling. A smile that almost reached his burning eyes.

He moved his head away from her face, bent his head and landed a soft feathery kiss on her forehead. Ophelia felt her heart skip and before she knew it, she felt her back press against the wall.

You’re staring. He whispered, his voice becoming huskier. The urge to pin her to the wall and devour whole with kisses that could render her breathless overcame him. He landed his lips on hers but at that exact moment, her stomach grumbled loudly causing him to lean aside and watch her innocent face become crimson with embarrassment.

Can I not?Ophelia laughed nervously, her fingers still clasped around his cloak. His gaze on her was utterly scorching. Ophelia was sure that if he stared longer, her legs would undoubtedly give out. Gods! This was both a good and a bad thing. She adored it!

Nikolai rasped, You can look at more than just my face if you want. His lips stretched when her face turned red. Ah, his favorite color.

Hehe. I’m hungry.”

I am as well.Nikolai said like it was a matter of fact.

To be completely honest, I have never seen you consume food other than the blood you consumed the night before. You have been concentrating on feeding me rather than on yourself. I can’t believe you aren’t being true
