Ophelia exited the castle hurriedly, relieved that she could recall how she and Rhaziel had entered, but she felt stranded and stopped walking when she couldn’t find her carriage.
There was a lot of drama. She was anxious to leave as soon as she could.
“Ugh!” She facepalmed herself. Hard. regretting her decision to obey her father. Why was it necessary to hasten something so important? But then again, she thought everything was so odd.
“I have to leave here,” She exhaled and started rushing down the stairs while squeezing her face in agony from the sharp pain coming from the heels on her feet.
Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest as she stared straight ahead to the bottom of the steps where Nikolai Novikov suddenly appeared and began staring at her amusingly.
He was directly in front of her when she squealed as she descended the last flight of steps, and he promptly encircled her petite figure with his large arms.
Her entire existence was ignited once more, and she clumsily rested her head against his sturdy chest as it slowly heaved in an attempt to squelch the pleasure.
She had a racing heart and was mentally unfocused. Her focus was waning.
“Where do you think you are heading to?” That cautionary inquiry sounded, and his chest shook.
Ophelia pushed him away right quickly, but he was still holding her tightly in his arms. When she suddenly raised her gaze to him, she noticed that he was staring at her with such intensity that it appeared as though he was looking into her soul.
Her brow rose. “What do you think you are doing?” Despite feeling like she was on fire in his arms, she managed to keep her tone calm. She knew he was aware of his influence on her because he was bound to notice her heart racing rapidly.
“Holding what belongs to me.”
When she heard those words again, she groaned in frustration and closed her eyes. She had had enough. Killing someone had never been difficult for her, and now that he had threatened her and caused a scene, she was going to execute it without hesitation.
Her small hands fell onto his broad shoulders, which one might almost compare to a vast ocean as her eyes sprung open, glaring ominously at him. “Fortunately, I am not startled to learn that you are deaf.”
Ophelia wasn’t going to back down in the face of his beauty, even when a ghost of a smile danced on those exquisite lips of his.
She leaned her face close to his until their lips were only an inch apart. “I am not yours Nikolai Novikov; you are my prey, and I will treat you as a predator treats its prey,” She tightened her tenuous hold on his shoulders and lowered her voice to a menacing whisper.
Her heart was racing wildly, and her breathing was shallow. Her comments, which had a seductive tone and the appearance of a threat, caused his eyes to glow darkly and twist with rage. His chest was on the edge of opening up due to his pounding heart.
She fared well considering the name he gave her. Fire storm. She dared to refer to him as her prey. Incredible.
She gave him the desire to rip her to pieces and an amazing amount of rage. He despised the way she constantly pushed his limits. She was supposed to be his plaything, but she was behaving more like a predator.
Aside from that rage, the desire he felt for her was just too strong and puzzling, and their proximity was just too alluring.
