Chapter 232
Lyric POV
The way he moves away from us makes Nova whimper.
Not confused. Not rejected. Sad.
She kneels and then lays at his feet.
He looks at her then at Cole and he tilts his head.
“Can you shift back?” I link him and his red eyes go wide.
He shakes his head.
Something in his expression twists painfully and I realize this isn’t refusal. It’s inability.
“Nova we may need to touch him so that we can help him” I say to her.
She stands and closes the distance between us.
Slowly. Like approaching something hurt instead of something dangerous.
She yips and he just looks at her and she yips again and he brings his head down to hers.
She presses her head to his and he roars in pain before his fur starts receding, his snout starts reshaping.
The sound tears through me because it doesn’t sound like pain alone. It sounds like something breaking free.
When he is completely in his human form he collapses onto the floor breathing heavy.
Gods he is beautiful, I thought Cole was a god by himself, but them together.
His head snaps up to meet Nova’s eyes.
“How?” he says voice hoarse from lack of use.
She yips at him and puts her head to his once more healing the connection between him and his Lycan.
The moment she does we’re hit with his scent freshly baked apple pie the scent hits us so hard Nova stumbles back.
Warm. Familiar. The kind of scent that feels like home before you understand why.
“Shift back princess” Cole says eyes locked on Kairo.

Chapter 232
I shift back and Cole hands me his jacket.
444
I put it on and walk to help Kairo up.
Cole moves to his other side and the moment I touch him sparks break out across my hands and I guess it was the same for Cole because he freezes for a second before moving to get a better grip on him.
The sparks feel different. Not new. Like something waking up.
When we sit him down I really look at him.
He has tattoos also but not nearly as many as Cole, his skin is a tad bit lighter than mine and he has pale blue eyes.
His eyes don’t match the rest of him. They feel too tired for somebody who still looks so young.
He looks between Cole and I.
“How?” he asks again.
I smile at him.
“I guess fate had other plans for us” I say.
The words still feel impossible even as I say them.
“Hi, I’m Lyric and this is my mate Cole” I say smiling at him again.
He touches his throat as if it hurts to speak.
“May I?” I ask.
He just nods.
I lightly touch his throat and heal his vocal chords.
He clears his throat.
“Thank you” he say locking eyes with me.
His expression softens for a second and I realize he probably hasn’t been cared for in a very long time.
“You look like her” he says.
I giggle softly and it’s like the sound settles something in him he didn’t know he needed.
His shoulders lower just enough for me to notice.

Chapter 232
“I am the last one of Eloise’s reborn selves” I say.
“How are we mated?, I already had a second chance mate and how am I mated to your mate?” He asks.
Of all the questions in the world that’s the one he chose. Not why me. Why us.
I don’t even get the chance to respond because Selene chooses that moment to appear.
“Oh hello mother moon” I say.
“Hello my daughter” she says smiling.
“I can answer that for you” she says to Kairo.
“Long ago my siblings and I created a prophecy to prevent the Rogues from taking over the supernatural world using my daughters reincarnated self the way the first Alpha King of the East did to my beautiful Eloise” she says pausing momentarily.
The room feels impossibly still.
“By the time your mate was born Kairo 3 others were reborn and killed before they were even able to shift, your mate was fortunate
because she was born in the Western kingdom” she says sadness lacing her voice.
“But they found her” Kairo says softly.
His voice is quiet but the grief underneath it isn’t.
She smiles sadly at him.
“Yes and she was taken from you much earlier than she was supposed to be, when your second mate betrayed you my sister felt you
deserved a mate who would be strong enough to help your Lycan and a mate who was strong enough to help you rebuild your
kingdom. She felt you deserved to be whole” she says looking at Cole and I.
