Chapter 174
No hesitation. No second guessing. This has to work.
They both nod their heads.
“Ivana on the day of if David is here, I need you to distract him and then I will give you something to give him it will keep hin
aware but unable to move” I say.
She smiles “I can handle that” she says.
There it is. Anger replacing fear. Good.
“Good, because after today we are have no time to plan, so this is the only meeting, I can link you all so you will hear me in your heads. Lydia you are with me that night because my body feels like it’s ready” I say.
“Seraphina tell Jonathan he needs to be careful David is wary of him and he needs to be careful around him” I say to her.
“Okay everyone needs to leave now, David is coming I tried to buy time but he no longer wants to wait” Lydia says urgently.
My body goes still. Not fear. Calculation. Mask dropping into place before he even walks in.
“Seraphina put a glamour spell around the clinic so nobody can see you all leaving, Rhea you stay” I say just as everyone walks out.
“you are with me, no matter what got it?” I say locking eyes with her.
She holds my gaze for a second then smiles “Got it” she says.
She doesn’t look away. Good. She’ll hold.
I go and sit back in the bed just as David walks in the clinic.
When he sees me he smiles what seems like a genuine smile and it makes my stomach flip.
Not attraction. Instinct. My body reacting before my mind shuts it down. I hate that.
In different circumstances I would call him handsome but now he’s as ugly as his actions.
“Good morning mate, how are you feeling this morning?, how are our pups?” he asks me softly.
Nova growls low in my mind and it takes everything in me to mask her overwhelming anger bleeding in with my need to survive.
It presses against my chest, rage, disgust, power, all of it fighting to come out. I shove it down. Hard.
I smile softly at him and bring my hand to cup his cheek.

Chapter 174
“We are fine my love” I say low.
The lie slides out smooth. Too smooth. That scares me more than anything.
“Are you still mad at me?” he asks.
Am I still mad at you for tying me to a bed and assaulting me, fucking furious.
“No, love I understand you were frustrated, I will do better to remember that” I say sweetly.
Every word feels like poison. I swallow it anyway.
He smiles bright like I said exactly what he wanted to hear.
“I’m so happy to hear that, Lydia said you should be giving birth soon and you need a real rest so Rhea will take you back to your room in a while. I have to step out for the rest of the day. I will stop by your room to check on you when I get back” he says
stepping closer to me.
I pout my lips
“I will be sleep David, I tell you I’m not mad anymore and you’re locking me away and leaving again” I say faking disappointment.
Push. Pull. Give him what he wants while taking what I need.
“Don’t worry beautiful this war is almost over and by then our pups will be here and we can really enjoy being mated again” he says
before kissing me softly.
I’m sorry my King.
Not for this. For what I’m about to do.
“Okay now I have to go, I will see you in the morning” he says kissing me again and turning and walking out.
The moment the door closes behind him the mask drops and the tears fall.
Not quiet. Not soft. It hits hard, like everything I held back comes out at once.
“Pretending to be his mate is harder than it was pretending my sister wasn’t abusing mo” I say out loud.
And that says everything.
“Don’t worry Lyric it’s almost over” Rhea says.
Almost over isn’t enough, trying to suppress the rage every second I am around him is getting harder to do and with my magic being back and unpredictable I’m nervous.

3 more days.
Three days until I stop pretending.
Three days until he dies.
Three days until I take everything back.

I know when I reread this book it won’t feel like it is moving so slowly, but with the daily updates I am getting so impatient for Lyric to get home!
