Chapter 124

Lyric POV

I’m woken up out of my sleep by a blinding pain in my chest. It hits sharp and sudden, like something inside me just snapped in

half. A bond snapping. Nu.

Nova whimpers in my mind.

Who is it?

The panic and grief for who I lost begin to overwhelm me, and with my pregnancy now further along, my hormones are even more

out of whack. The tears fall instantly.

Cole bursts into the bedroom, eyes wide in panic. The door slams against the wall behind him.

“Love, talk to me,” he says, cupping my cheeks.

The sparks from his touch and his scent calm me a little.

“Something is wrong, someone is dead. I think it’s one of my parents,” I say, rubbing my chest that now feels hollow, like a piece of

me is missing.

I pick up my phone and call Hunter.

But he doesn’t answer.

I call again. Still no answer.

My fingers start trembling around the phone. My breathing turns uneven.

The panic is now in overdrive.

“Something is happening at Moonveil,” I choke out, trying to control my emotions until I know what is going on.

Elias and Iris bust into the room, followed by Winter and Dom.

Winter runs into my arms. “Lyric, something is going on at the pack, I felt a bond snap,” she cries.

“I know, me too. It’s one of our parents,” I say, tears falling now.

Cole pulls me into his lap on the bed.

Iris is crying into Elias’s arms.

Chapter 124

Jace and Logan run in, tears running down their faces.

“Mom is dead,” Jace says, voice cracking.

The words hit but before I can even process them-

I feel the snap of another bond.

“No.”

My chest caves in again, worse this time, like I can’t get enough air.

“He killed both of them,” I whisper, more to myself than anyone else.

I never even got to tell my mom I forgave her.

The last memory she has of me is me yelling at her.

Why.

Why…

would he kill them?

I scream out in agony, feeling the weight of what I just lost.

My parents died thinking I hated them.

“It’s okay, princess,” Cole says, rubbing my back.

“David will pay for all his sins,” he says, voice dropping. Low. Cold. Final.

I’m so lost in my grief I don’t really register what he’s saying or anyone in the room.

Nova’s howls echo in my head, her emotions blending with mine until I can’t breathe.

The air around us thins.

“He took them from me,” I say, voice dropping.

“Princess,” Cole says, his arms tightening as the air around us starts to crackle with energy.

He took my parents from me.

And he will die a slow death for that.

Chapter 124

I feel my hands start to shake as I replay the day I left Moonveil.

I didn’t even say goodbye to them, and they were there.

I ignored them.

Even though my father spoke to me, I left without saying goodbye to him.

The guilt hits just as hard as the grief-heavy, suffocating, unforgiving.

“Princess, please calm down,” Cole says, wrapping his arms completely around me.

I take in his scent and it calms me on the outside.

On the inside, my emotions are a mess.

“Why did he kill them? We still had three days. Why is he already attacking a pack?” I say.

“He lied to us,” Cole says.

“He did whatever he wanted to do, and I have a feeling he isn’t done yet,” Cole adds.

That lands heavy. No one argues.

My phone starts to ring in my hand.

Hunter.

I answer and put it on speaker.

“Hunter, what is going on?”

Silence stretches.

Too long. Too quiet. Like he’s choosing his words carefully.

“Lyric, I know you all felt it, but mom and dad are dead. David attacked us and specifically targeted them, Ly. Do you hear me? He

targeted our parents. This isn’t about a crown, Lyric. This is about you. The explosions, the fights, all of it was just distractions to

| kill our parents,” he says.
