The Divorce That Brought Us Back novel Chapter 84

Yates spoke with such self-righteous entitlement, constantly claiming the moral high ground to make himself untouchable, yet completely disregarding Jasmine's feelings.

Nora was practically trembling with rage.

"Get the hell out!" she blurted out.

But Nora wasn't Cassidy; her "get out" lacked that commanding, army-halting ferocity.

Her voice was too soft and gentle.

Because Yates had grown up alongside Jasmine, he had known Nora since they were kids. He knew she had a sweet temper and was easily swayed. Completely unbothered by her anger, he pressed on. "If you don't wake Jasmine up right now, and something happens to Valery, the blame will fall entirely on her. When Jasmine finds out you were the one who stopped her, how are you going to justify that to her?"

Nora's face flushed crimson with fury. She pointed at Yates and ordered the bodyguards, "Drag him out of here!"

There were four guards stationed at the door.

The two handsome younger ones belonged to Cassidy's mother-in-law.

The two massive, imposing ones worked for Maloney.

All four sprang into action at once, clapping a hand over Yates's mouth and hauling him bodily down the hall.

The hallway fell silent again.

Nora didn't sleep a wink for the rest of the night.

She was too consumed by anxiety to close her eyes.

Yates's words had struck right at the core of her fears.

Maloney immediately dispatched someone to keep a close eye on Valery's status.

"Maloney." Nora gripped his hand tightly. "Did I make a mistake? Should I have woken Jasmine up? But if I dragged her out of bed right now, it would be so unfair to her."

As she spoke about how unfair it was for Jasmine, Nora started tearing up on her behalf.

Shortly after Nora and Maloney left, Cassidy had barely settled onto the sofa when Jasmine slowly blinked awake.

"Wow, Nora really is a human sleep charm," Cassidy remarked, walking over to tuck a pillow behind Jasmine's back. "Can you hear me?"

Jasmine took a moment to orient herself. "Your voice sounds a little muffled."

"Nora and Mr. Jameson stayed with you all night and just left." Cassidy checked her watch. "It's 6:27 AM. Yates came by last night saying Valery woke up and wanted you to comfort her, but Nora kicked him out."

Cassidy met Jasmine's gaze. "What's your play here?"

Jasmine paused for a moment. "I should go check on my sister."

"I'll go get the doctor to examine you first." Cassidy placed the remaining breakfast on the overbed table. "After they check you out, you eat. Once you're done eating, I'll walk you over to see Valery."

"Take care of yourself first before worrying about anyone else."
