Seeing that Nora was determined, Cassidy gave her Silas King's room number.

In truth, Nora didn't know Silas that well.

Among Maloney's close circle of friends, Nora was most familiar with Leo Sterling.

People with introverted and shy personalities naturally took time to warm up to others, but Leo was an aggressive extrovert. He had eagerly introduced himself to Nora and, within three sentences, they were practically best buddies.

Silas, however, was much more reserved. He was the quintessential tech-guy archetype. Whenever he saw Nora, he usually just offered a polite 'Mrs. Jameson' and left it at that.

Nora, naturally, wasn't the type to strike up a conversation with him either.

They were acquaintances at best.

Nora bought a fruit basket from a shop near the hospital and headed to Silas's room.

When she walked in, Silas was sitting up in bed. His left leg was in a cast. He was scrolling through a tablet propped on a tray table with his left hand, holding a pen in his right, and had a stack of documents pinned under his elbow.

He was clearly a relentless workaholic.

Working through the pain.

"Mr. King."

Nora knocked lightly on the open door.

Silas looked up from his screen. Seeing Nora, he didn't seem overly surprised. He offered a warm smile. "Mrs. Jameson, what brings you here? Please, come in and have a seat."

There was a nurse and an assistant in the room.

The nurse quickly pulled up a chair next to the bed, while the assistant took the fruit basket from Nora, set it on a side table, and handed her a cup of tea.

The hospitality was flawless.

Nora sat down. "I happened to be in the hospital and heard you were injured, so I wanted to come check on you."

"I'm a grown man, I've got thick skin. It's just a little fall, nothing to worry about." Silas shifted the topic smoothly. "How is Director Quinn doing?"

He had deliberately steered the conversation toward Cassidy.
