The Coldest Man in the Room Melted Only for Me novel Chapter 98

The last shred of Riley's hope shattered, draining even more color from her face. "That's impossible. Lory is Pierce's daughter. I have no idea why her blood type is O."

Sebastian stared at her in deafening silence.

To Riley, his silence felt like a damning indictment of her lying. She automatically translated his stare to mean: Do you even believe that yourself?

"I'm telling the truth. I genuinely don't know why this is happening."

Watching the frantic panic swirling in her eyes, Sebastian let out a barely perceptible sigh. "What makes you so certain your genetic testing with Pierce was accurate?"

It was as if she had been slapped awake. Her hyper-focused, spiraling mind suddenly snapped open.

Exactly! Why hadn't she thought of that?

She and Pierce had been bullied into that genetic test by Beatrice, who threatened to boycott their wedding if they refused.

Pierce had even gotten into a massive screaming match with Beatrice over it on the day of the test. The whole clinic had been in chaos. If Lory's blood type was verified to be correct, then either her or Pierce's blood sample must have been swapped that day, resulting in a false genetic report.

She looked at Sebastian, barely containing her excitement. "Sebastian, could you wait here for Lory? I need to go to the lab and get my blood tested right now."

Sebastian gave a curt nod.

Riley hurried off, but just as she rounded the corner of the corridor, she ran into Dr. Jenson. "Dr. Jenson."

Dr. Jenson looked at her in surprise. "Your maternity leave isn't over yet. What are you doing at the hospital?"

"My daughter was diagnosed with a hernia. She's in surgery."

"How is she doing?" Dr. Jenson asked with genuine concern.

"The surgery was a success."

Dr. Jenson nodded in relief. "That's good. Where are you rushing off to in such a panic?"

The anomaly regarding her and her daughter's blood types had already spread through the hospital grapevine. If she let the misunderstanding fester, the rumor that Lory was illegitimate would directly sabotage her divorce from Pierce.

If Pierce was cheating, but she had birthed another man's child, how would a judge untangle that mess in court?
