Riley lowered her gaze. "His phone went straight to voicemail. He must be busy."
Sebastian's sharp brows furrowed slightly. He pulled out his phone and dialed Pierce's number. It rang several times before Pierce finally picked up. "Sebastian."
"Where are you?" Sebastian's voice was frigid, devoid of a single ounce of warmth.
Riley couldn't help but scoff inwardly. He ignored her calls because he didn't want her interrupting his time with Seraphina and her son.
But he didn't dare ignore Sebastian's call, because Sebastian was someone he absolutely could not afford to offend.
Pierce, exactly how many faces do you have that I haven't seen?
"I'm out discussing a business deal. Did you need something?" Pierce's tone was incredibly deferential.
"Riley and Lory are at the hospital."
"What happened? Why are they at the hospital?" Pierce sounded genuinely panicked.
Sebastian's harsh brow line tightened further. Refusing to waste breath, he spat out a command, "Unity Health Center. Get here immediately," and promptly hung up.
Riley had no idea what Pierce had said, but she heard every word of Sebastian's side. Three sentences, zero fluff. He was decisive, ruthless, and commanded absolute obedience.
If a man like this intervened in the Landon family's affairs and sided with Pierce, Riley felt that even with all her evidence, she still might not win in court.
Therefore, until the divorce papers were signed, she absolutely could not let him find out about her plans.
With that in mind, Riley looked up at Sebastian, carefully adopting the gentle, understanding demeanor of a devoted wife. "Sebastian, it's fine. Pierce must just be overwhelmed. He works so hard to give Lory and me a better life. I completely understand."
Sebastian pressed his lips together and stared at her.
His intense scrutiny made her skin crawl. The man's gaze was endlessly dark and unfathomable, his emotions locked up so tight it was utterly impossible to read him.
She asked tentatively, "Sebastian, did I say something wrong?"
Sebastian's eyes remained dead calm. "Excessive tolerance isn't understanding. It's enabling."
