Quinn instantly caught on. "If she finds out, she'll definitely follow you. If you get sick, it gives them the perfect window to sneak around. Not only do you get out of sleeping with Pierce, but you can also catch them red-handed."
Riley nodded. "Exactly."
Quinn gave her a thumbs-up. "Brilliant. That medical degree isn't just for show. Your brain is terrifyingly sharp."
"But knowing him, if I get sick, he'll probably just stay in the hotel room and take care of me. Even if I convince him to leave, he'll still come back to sleep in my room at night." Riley's mind spun rapidly as she analyzed the variables. "The best-case scenario is getting admitted to the hospital. If I'm stuck in a hospital bed, he won't be able to sleep next to me."
"But you're faking it. Forget getting admitted—the second a real doctor looks at you, your cover is blown."
"What if I have a friend at the hospital?"
Quinn blinked, not following. "You're going to another city. Your colleagues from the hospital here in Riverport aren't going to magically teleport just to help you fake a chart."
Riley smirked. "Did you think I slept through eight years of med school? Do you really think all my classmates stayed in Riverport?"
Quinn clapped her hands together. "Of course! You can get a med school buddy to cover for you."
"Hurry up and eat," Riley urged. "I need to get home and call my friends so we can pick a location. Once I have the destination, I'll text you, and you make sure Seraphina gets the memo."
"You got it." Quinn clicked her tongue playfully as she looked at Riley. "Honestly, if you ever decide to sell me out, I'd probably be the one counting the cash for you."
Riley laughed, dropping a piece of steak onto Quinn's plate. "You're too pretty and kind. I could never sell you."
They finished their meal in high spirits.
With a solid plan in place, Riley's previous gloom had completely vanished.
