From what she could see, the room was empty.
Riley pushed the door open a little wider. Still no one. It wasn't until she opened the door completely that she confirmed the main office was completely vacant.
Where were they?
Riley scanned the room and spotted a women's Hermès bag resting on the sofa. Her gaze immediately snapped to the private lounge attached to the office.
She set the thermos down quietly on the desk, pulled her phone out of her pocket, and walked toward the lounge door.
Just as she reached it, the door suddenly opened from the inside.
Pierce stepped out. The moment he saw Riley, a flash of pure panic cut through his eyes. He instantly looked back over his shoulder, but it was too late to say anything.
Seraphina stood right behind him. The moment she spotted Riley, a gleam of excitement flashed in her eyes before she quickly masked it.
In a split second, Pierce forced his expression back to normal. He stepped forward and grabbed Riley's hand. "Riley, what are you doing here?"
A cloying wave of sweet perfume hit her face.
Riley's first instinct was to violently shove him away.
But knowing she still didn't have solid proof of his affair and couldn't afford to blow her cover, she forced herself to endure it.
She honestly had to hand it to him—getting caught like this and still acting so calm took real talent.
Riley let her gaze drift suspiciously between Pierce and Seraphina. "What were you two... doing in there?"
Pierce didn't miss a beat. "She accidentally spilled coffee on her clothes. I was just helping her find the cleaning supplies in the bathroom." He gently pulled her toward the main desk. "Why didn't you call me before coming over?"
Watching his flawlessly calm demeanor, Riley felt as if she were looking at a stranger. Thank God he was such a good liar, otherwise how could she keep playing her part?
"Why would I need to call you first?"
