Riley casually asked, “What's wrong with her child?”

“I'm not exactly sure. After my IV today, I swung by the legal department at Landon Enterprises. While sorting things out, I overheard some gossip. Landon Enterprises is preparing to partner with the Sutton family. Some busybodies have started dragging up the history between your husband and Seraphina.”

Riley frowned. “Landon Enterprises is partnering with the Suttons?”

Quinn looked surprised. “Pierce didn't tell you?”

Riley shook her head. “No.”

“I figured he would have discussed it with you beforehand.”

“I never interfere with his work.”

“This is different. It involves Seraphina. He shouldn't be keeping it from you.”

Riley pressed her lips together and stayed silent.

Seeing Riley's despondent expression, Quinn swallowed her own righteous indignation. “You should ask him face-to-face later. There might be a good reason. Communication is key in a marriage.”

Riley nodded. “I will.”

When Riley got home, she felt profoundly gloomy. Maybe it was just pregnancy hormones making her overthink.

Her mind kept circling back to why Pierce would hide the partnership with the Suttons.

Also, if they were preparing to collaborate, Pierce must have known Seraphina was back. Yet, he never mentioned a word of it to her.

Why hide it all?

Was it because he didn't view her as his closest confidante, or was it because...

He had a guilty conscience?

That night, Pierce didn't get home until past eleven. Walking into the bedroom, he saw Riley still reading a book. He walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. “Didn't I tell you not to wait up?”
