Pierce looked at Riley with utmost sincerity. "Riley, I was wrong to betray you, but you are the only woman I love. I'll cut off all contact with her. I'll never see her again. Please, let's not get a divorce."

Riley shook her head. "No. From the moment you betrayed me, the outcome was set in stone."

Pierce tried to grab Riley's hand, but she pulled away. "Ever since she returned from abroad, she wouldn't stop pestering me. That day in the grove, she threatened to kill herself if I didn't see her. I only went to calm her down."

"It takes two to tango."

"You were pregnant, and I was worried about your health, so I held back from touching you. She kept throwing herself at me, and in a moment of weakness, I made a terrible mistake. She was nothing but a physical release for me. You are the only woman I've ever loved."

Riley had no desire to listen to his repulsive excuses. "Telling me this now is completely pointless. If you actually care about me at all, you'll agree to the divorce."

Pierce shook his head adamantly. "I will never agree to a divorce." As he spoke, he pulled out his phone and blocked every single one of Seraphina's contact methods right in front of her.

Riley just found it comical. "Pierce, even if you never speak to her or see her again, it doesn't erase the fact that you slept with her. You're tainted. I don't want you anymore. Do you understand?"

Pierce's face paled. The word 'tainted' pierced his heart like a jagged blade, and the worst part was, he couldn't even defend himself against it.

He took a breath to steady himself. "I know this has been a massive blow to you, and I don't expect you to forgive me right away. I'll use my actions to prove my dedication to you. I have matters to attend to at the office, so I'll leave you be for now." Without giving Riley a chance to respond, he stood up and quickly left the room.

Riley printed out another copy of the divorce agreement, signed it, and waited for him to return. She waited until eleven o'clock that night, but he never showed up. He didn't answer her calls, and he ignored her text messages.

The next morning, Riley woke up, washed her face, and went straight to the nursery to check on her daughter.

Her daughter was already awake. Mrs. Gable had placed her in the rocking bassinet and was playing with her using a little rattle. Seeing Riley walk in, she smiled warmly. "You're up, ma'am. Mr. Landon bought you some gifts. They're all downstairs in the living room. You should go take a look!"
