Chapter 94
ARIA

I grabbed Emma’s golden hair, yanking her back to the center of the living room. She screamed-a real scream this time, not one of those
fake dramatic gasps she used to manipulate people.
“Where do you think you’re running to?” I raised the silver fruit knife I’d been holding, pressing it toward her throat.
The peaceful quiet of the Grant estate shattered as footsteps thundered down the hallway. Blake and Matthew burst into the room first, their faces turning white at the scene. Olivia appeared behind them, frozen at the doorway.
“Mr. Morgan! Mr. Redwood! Ms. Redwood!” Christine shrieked, stumbling backward. “Thank God you came! Aria’s gone completely insane-
she’s trying to murder us!”
Blake stepped forward with his hands up. “Aria, put the knife down. Now.”
“Don’t tell me what to do.” I kept the blade pointed at Emma’s throat. “You lost that right a long time ago.”
Matthew moved closer. “Aria, please. Think about what you’re doing.”
“I am thinking.” My voice came out dead calm, which seemed to scare them more than if I’d been screaming. “I’m thinking about my father drowning alone in that rehabilitation center while his killer walked free.”
“Emma.” I pressed the knife closer to her skin. “You killed my father, didn’t you? Say it.”
The room fell dead silent.
Emma’s face twisted with terror and rage. “Aria, have you lost your goddamn mind? I only heard about Aaron’s drowning tonight!”
“Stop lying!” I yanked her hair harder. “I saw you at the rehab center that day.”
“That’s impossible!” Emma’s voice cracked. ‘I wasn’t even there!”
“Your back. Your hair. That ridiculous designer coat you always wear.” I laughed, but it sounded broken. “I thought I was seeing things. Told myself I was wrong. But when you tried to run just now, I knew. It was you.”
Christine jumped in front of Emma. ‘Miss Emma was sick that entire week! She never left the Grant estate. I took care of her myself!”
“Of course you did.” I looked at Christine with pure hatred. “You two always cover for each other. Murder. Poisoning. Lies. What’s a little perjury between partners in crime?*
Emma turned to Blake, tears streaming down her face. “Blake, please! She’s going to kill me! She’s having a breakdown because she

couldn’t take care of her own father, and now she needs someone to blame!”

The words hit me harder than a slap. “You think I don’t know that? You think I don’t wake up every morning hating myself for not being
there?’
My voice broke. “But that doesn’t change what you did, Emma.”
Blake’s expression hardened. “Aria, enough. Put the knife down. Emma had no reason to hurt your father. He was your family’s driver. This
is grief talking, not logic.”
“Just a driver?” I stared at Blake, feeling something die inside me. “That’s all he was to you people, wasn’t he? Just the hired help. Not
worth investigating. Not worth justice.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Blake took a step forward.
“Don’t.” I pointed the knife at him. “Don’t you dare come closer pretending you care.”
‘I do care, Aria. But you’re not thinking straight right now.”
“Not thinking straight?” I laughed, and it sounded hysterical even to my own ears. “You know what I’m thinking? I’m thinking about how you didn’t believe me when I told you Emma had me kidnapped. How you said the case was closed, Jacob was dead, end of story.”
“The police investigation-
“Screw the police investigation!” I screamed. “Did you ever even consider that Emma might be involved? Did you question her even once? Or did you just accept her word because she’s Emma Grant and I’m nobody?”
Blake’s face changed. “I looked into everything, Aria. There was no evidence connecting Emma to any of this.”
“Because you didn’t want to find any!” My hand shook, making the knife tremble. “Because finding evidence would mean admitting that
the woman you love is a monster.”
“That’s enough.” Blake’s voice went cold. “You’re under extreme stress. Your father just died. I’m trying to help you before you do
something that destroys your entire life.”
‘Help me?” I felt tears streaming down my face. “You want to help me? Then believe me! For once in your life, Blake Morgan, believe me
instead of her!”
The silence that followed was crushing.
Blake’s jaw tightened. ‘I can’t believe something without evidence, Aria. That’s not how I work.”
“Then we have nothing left to say.”

“I didn’t do anything! Emma sobbed. “Your father Aaron was our family’s driver for years. Why would I hurt him? I have no motive, no
reason, nothing!”
Her words made me hesitate for just a second. The knife felt impossibly heavy.
