The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 95

Chapter 95

Blake seized that moment. He lunged forward, grabbing my wrist. The blade sliced into his palm as he twisted it away from me. Blood

dripped onto the expensive carpet.

‘Blake!” Emma rushed forward with outstretched arms.

Blake shoved her aside. Instead, he pulled me against his chest and lifted me off the ground.

“Let go of me!” I screamed, hitting his shoulders. “I hate you! Blake, put me down!”

He ignored me, carrying me out of the room. I fought and struggled, but I had nothing left. The rage was draining away, leaving only

emptiness.

“I hope you’re happy,” I whispered. “You saved her. Again.”

Blake didn’t respond. His grip only tightened.

Five days later, I stood in the chapel, staring at my father’s casket. The church was packed with strangers-business associates who never knew my father, social climbers who came for networking, people who showed up out of obligation.

Christine and Emma sat in the front row, dabbing at dry eyes with handkerchiefs.

My heart felt dead. My father was gone. I couldn’t protect him from his killer. I couldn’t protect anyone.

When the pastor finished his eulogy, I stepped forward.

“Thank you all for coming. My voice echoed through the chapel. “I know most of you didn’t really know Aaron Taylor. He was just a driver

to you. Just hired help.

Uncomfortable silence filled the church.

“But he was my father. And he didn’t die in an accident.” I looked directly at Emma and Christine. ‘My father was murdered.”

The chapel erupted. Gasps. Whispers. Shock.

‘I’ve filed a formal complaint with the NYPD. This case is now under criminal investigation.”

Christine shot to her feet, face purple with rage. “How dare you desecrate your father’s body with an autopsy! What kind of daughter cuts open her own father?”

“The kind who wants justice. I walked toward her. ‘The autopsy showed water in his lungs wasn’t from the hydrotherapy pool. Bruising on his shoulders and back of his head. Signs of struggle beneath his fingernails. He didn’t just drown during therapy, Christine. Someone held him under.

Christine’s mouth opened but no sound came out.

Behind her, Emma had gone ghost-white. Her hands gripped the pew so hard her knuckles looked skeletal.

The burial was smaller. I stood beside the open grave, watching them lower my father into the ground.

Blake approached, his footsteps crunching on grass. He grabbed my wrist hard enough to bruise.

“Why didn’t you tell me?’ His voice was low and furious. “Why did I have to hear about a murder investigation at a funeral?”

I pulled my arm free. “Why would I tell you? So you could explain to me again how I’m imagining things?”

“That’s not fair.”

“Fair?” I laughed bitterly. “You want to talk about fair, Blake? My father is dead. And the woman who destroyed my life is standing over

there playing victim while you protect her.”

Blake’s jaw clenched. “I’m not protecting anyone. I follow evidence, Aria. Just evidence.”

“I’ve been working with Matthew.” I raised my voice, making sure everyone heard. “The rehabilitation center had security cameras. They recorded everything that happened the day my father died. We’re tracking down everyone who was there.”

Blake’s eyes went cold. “You went behind my back. To Matthew.”

“Yes. Because Matthew actually listens to me.”

‘I never said you were imagining things.”

“You didn’t have to.” I met his gaze. “You’ve made your choice, Blake. You chose Emma over me. You chose her the day I was kidnapped,

and you’re still choosing her now.”

“Stop putting words in my mouth.” Blake’s voice shook with anger. ‘I’ve been patient with you. I’ve tried to support you. But you’ve taken

my patience and ground it into the dirt.”

“Your patience?” I felt something snap inside me. ‘I don’t want your patience, Blake. I wanted you to believe me. To stand beside me. But you can’t do that, can you? Because it might mean admitting Emma isn’t the angel you think she is.”

‘Since you have Redwood helping you now,” Blake said coldly, “I hope you find what you’re looking for.”

“Oh, I will.” My voice was ice. “Without you.”

Blake walked away without looking back. His shoulders were rigid, every line of his body radiating fury.

I turned to where Emma and Christine stood apart from the other mourners. Emma’s hands were shaking so badly she had to clasp them

together. Her eyes kept darting around, never landing on me for more than a second.

There it was. Fear.

I smiled inside despite the pain crushing my chest. Even if those cameras showed nothing, this was enough. All I needed was for the killer

to panic. To make one mistake.

The trap was working.

Emma was breaking.
