An uncomfortable silence fell over the room.

Sarah looked between all of us, clearly uncomfortable with the personal drama unfolding. “Perhaps I should step outside-

“No, stay,” Alex said firmly. “You’re here as my assistant and witness. That’s important.”

He turned to me. “Olivia, I know this looks bad. But I’m a licensed attorney. Sarah is my registered assistant. Everything we do is

documented. I can show you my case files, my communications with Bella-everything. This is legitimate legal work.”

“I have nothing to hide,” David added quickly. “Wrong place, wrong time, wrong clothes. But I am not cheating on you, Olivia. I swear on

our baby’s life.”

The mention of the baby made my chest tighten.

Bella spoke up softly. “I never meant to cause problems. I just want my money back from the man who ruined my life. Alex and Sarah are

helping me. David was being supportive as my boss. That’s all.”

Sarah nodded. “I can vouch for everything. I’ve been present for every meeting. It’s all been professional and documented.

She looked at me with concern. “Ms. Redwood, I take my responsibilities seriously. If anything inappropriate was happening, I would

report it. But today has been nothing but legal work.”

I wanted to believe them. What cheaters would conduct an affair with two witnesses present?

But that gut feeling wouldn’t go away.

Aria’s eyes narrowed as she studied them. “Normal relatives don’t hang all over each other in hotel lobbies. That’s not normal.”

Thank God for Aria. At least someone else smelled the bullshit.

“You know what?” Aria turned to me. “Maybe we’re approaching this wrong. Olivia, didn’t you mention wanting to go back to the

company? Help David with the workload?’

“That’s actually not a bad idea,” I said slowly, catching on. “I’ve been away too long. The company needs me.”

Aria smiled sweetly at David. “I’m sure David, being the honest and upright man he is, would welcome your help. Right, David?”

David’s eye twitched. “Of course. It’s your family’s company after all. But I worry about your health. The pregnancy has been difficult, and

the doctor said you need rest-

‘I’ll be sitting at a desk, not running marathons,’ I cut him off. “The office environment is probably better than home anyway.”

His hand was clammy. Good. Let him sweat.

“Of course I’m happy,’ he said, his smile not reaching his eyes. “I just don’t want you overworking yourself.

Bella’s face looked constipated. She tried one more shot. “Women who are constantly suspicious and paranoid can be exhausting for men.

Oh, she wanted to play? Fine.

David, probably sensing danger, quickly said, “My wife never exhausts me.”

Then he turned to Aria, his tone shifting. “Unlike some people who try to poison marriages. Have you been filling my wife’s head with

suspicions? Just because your marriage is unhappy doesn’t mean you should drag others down with you.”

The room went quiet. Even Alex looked uncomfortable. Sarah suddenly became very interested in her laptop screen.

I felt Aria tense beside me. This asshole just crossed a line.

I grabbed Aria’s hand and squeezed it. “Aria is my closest friend. My family.”

I looked David straight in the eye. “Men are like coats-replaceable. But sisterhood? That’s forever. And if this particular coat can’t handle

my friend, then I’ll throw it out without a second thought.”

I smiled, but it was all teeth. “You understand what I’m saying, darling?”
