I sat on William’s hospital bed, stroking his hair. He looked so pale.

*I’ll take you out the day after tomorrow,” I said. “We can go anywhere you want.”

His eyes lit up. “The park with the big slide?”

“Yes. And Ethan will be there for your birthday party.”

“What games will we play?” William sat up excitedly.

“A treasure hunt. Maybe some magic tricks.”

“I want the biggest treasure!”

The door burst open. Aurora skipped in, followed by Blake.

‘Mommy! William!” Aurora climbed onto the bed. “Aunt Olivia said we’re gonna play the best games ever!”

I smoothed her dress. “Why are you here so early?”

Aurora giggled. “Daddy wanted to surprise you! He’s really happy today!”

I looked at Blake. His stern expression was gone.

‘Daddy’s happy?” I asked.

“He smiled all morning! Even when I spilled juice on his papers!”

Blake cleared his throat. “They weren’t important.”

“What were you talking about?” Aurora asked.

“Birthday decorations. Lots of balloons.”

“What colors? I want pink!”

‘Pink, purple, blue-every color,” I said.

Aurora beamed. “I can’t wait to be four! When I grow up, I’m gonna run a company too!”

Blake moved closer. “That sounds wonderful, princess.”

Aurora kicked her legs excitedly. “For my birthday, can I have special invitation cards? I want to invite someone special!”

Blake’s expression brightened. “Who’s your special guest? Is it Daddy?”

Aurora shook her head, looking toward the doorway. “Not you, Daddy. It’s her!”

We turned to see Rebecca standing there.

*Rebecca!” I called out. “Aurora was just saying she wants you at the birthday party.”

Rebecca stepped in, looking surprised. “Me? I’m the special guest?*

Aurora ran to Rebecca. “Yes! You’re Aurora’s favorite. And William’s too!”

I nodded. “You’re the most important guest, Rebecca.”

Aurora pulled a crumpled card from her pocket. “Mitchell auntie, Aurora made this for you!”

Rebecca knelt down, taking the invitation. “This is beautiful, Aurora. But I’ve never been to a children’s birthday party before.”

Aurora patted Rebecca’s arm. “It’s easy! You just bring presents and eat cake!”

“Aurora’s right,” I added. “It’s just about bringing your wishes and joy.”

Rebecca smiled. “Then I’ll be there.

We chatted until a nurse arrived for William’s treatment.

‘I should go, Rebecca said.

‘I’ll walk you out,’ I offered.

In the hallway, I touched Rebecca’s arm. “I wanted to update you about Victoria.”

Rebecca tensed. ‘What about her?”

*She and Henderson are being held in a small warehouse outside the city,’ I explained quietly. “Blake is using them as bait to draw out Henderson’s illegitimate son.”

Rebecca frowned. “I thought Victoria was going to prison.”

“She tested positive for HIV, I said quietly. “Can’t just throw her in a cell with that.”

Rebecca’s face softened. “I see. That’s punishment enough.”

‘There’s more,’ I continued. ‘She’s completely lost it. Screaming, crying all day. Keeps saying she shouldn’t have pushed you down those stairs. She’s got this nasty rash and won’t stop clawing at her face.”

Rebecca nodded. “Finding out your whole life was a lie… that’d break anyone. If she hadn’t pushed me, I never would’ve ended up in the

hospital and found out about the Morgan family.”

“Bad people get what’s coming to them,” I said. “Don’t waste your energy on her.”

Rebecca smiled. “You’re right. I won’t think about Victoria anymore.”

Two days later, the Grant estate turned into a kids’ paradise. Colorful ribbons and balloons everywhere, fairy tale decorations scattered around the garden. The old tree where I used to sit alone as a kid now had rainbow balloons tied to its branches.

I stood under it, remembering all those hours I’d spent here, staring at the Grant mansion from far away. Back then, that world seemed

impossible to reach.

Strong arms wrapped around me from behind. Blake’s cologne hit me as he rested his chin on my shoulder.

“This is where we first met,” he whispered in my ear. “I fell for you right away, even though I acted like a jerk.”

I stiffened. “Yeah, I remember. I was just the housekeeper’s kid, watching from the sidelines. You were the untouchable Morgan prince.”
