Chapter 244

My knees went weak. For the first time in days, hope felt real, tangible. Not just wishful thinking or desperate prayers, but actual
scientific evidence that my son might survive.
âLet me see, I demanded, reaching for the papers Jack was waving. My hands trembled so badly I could barely hold them.
âThe compatibility is excellent,â Dr. Hall explained as I tried to focus on the numbers swimming before my eyes. âItâs not just a basic match itâs optimal. This gives William the best possible chance.â
I blinked rapidly, trying to clear the tears blurring my vision. The medical jargon and data charts merged into an incomprehensible mess. It didnât matter. The only important thing was that it matched. William had a chance.
âWhen can we do the procedure?â Blake asked, his voice tight.
âWe need a month to prepare both patients, Dr. Hall replied. âWilliam needs pre-treatment and Victoria requires some preparation too. We can schedule the procedure for next month if all goes well.â
One month. At least now we had a timeline and a concrete plan to save my son.
âI should thank Victoria,â I said, wiping my eyes. âWhere is she?â
The elevator dinged open. Victoria walked out with a slight limp, helped by a nurse. She wasnât the well-dressed socialite I remembered. This Victoria looked weaker, almost fragile, but her eyes still had that Morgan family pride.
âWell, well, she announced loudly. âI never thought Iâd see the day when Iâd become my own nephewâs lifesaver.â
The nurse helped her to a nearby chair. Victoria settled into it with that aristocratic posture the Morgans were known for, despite her
obvious discomfort.
âVictoria, Blake acknowledged with a slight nod. âThank you for coming.â
âDonât thank me yet, brother dear,â Victoria replied. âWe havenât discussed my terms.â
And there it was. The real Victoria, emerging from behind the mask of familial concern. I wanted to slap that smug expression right off
her face.
âTerms?â Blakeâs voice dropped several degrees.
âDid you really think Iâd donate my bone marrow without getting anything in return?â Victoria laughed, a brittle sound devoid of humor. âAfter you locked me in that storage room? After you broke my arms and legs?â

This is about Williamâs life, I interjected, struggling to keep my voice level. My son was fighting for his life, and she was treating it as a
business opportunity.
âExactly, Victoria smiled thinly at me. âAnd what would you give to save your sonâs life, Aria? What would Blake sacrifice for his heir?â
Blake moved forward, his expression hardening. âName your price.â
âNo!â I grabbed his arm. âYou canât just agree to whatever she wants.â
Blake turned to me, his eyes conflicted. âIf it saves William-
âSheâll take everything if you give her the chance,â I hissed. âWe can support her financially, but thatâs it.â
Victoriaâs eyes narrowed. âI want my family name back. My position in the Morgan family. My credit card with full limits. And a public
apology from Blake.â
âNo,â I said.
âThen your son can find another donor.â Victoria shrugged, examining her nails. âGood luck. The doctor said the match was perfect. What are the chances youâll find another one in time?â
My blood boiled. Using my childâs life as leverage? I hated her.
âYouâre Hendersonâs bastard daughter,â I snapped. âYou have no claim to the Morgan name.â
Victoriaâs face twisted with rage. She pushed away the nurse trying to help her stand. âYou lying bitch! Elizabeth is my mother!â
âNo. Henderson had an affair. You were the result. Elizabeth raised you after your father switched her real daughter, but youâre not a true
Morgan.â
Victoria went pale. âYou think youâre so smart? The housekeeperâs daughter who crawled into Blakeâs bed? Well, your sonâs life is in my hands now. How does that feel?â
Her words stung, but I wouldnât break. Not with Williamâs life at stake.
âThirty percent,â I said suddenly.
âWhat?â
âThirty percent of Nouvelle Retail Group. Complete the donation, and Iâll sign it over to you.â
Blake stared at me in shock. âAria, no. Thatâs worth-
