My guard went up immediately.

“I heard he needs a bone marrow transplant,” she continued, her voice suddenly earnest. As his aunt, my blood type and genetics must be

compatible with his! I’m here to help.”

I didn’t trust her sudden change of heart, but I stayed silent, waiting for her to reveal her true motives.

“Yesterday, Jack came and told me William needed bone marrow. He said if I helped, Blake might reconsider my… situation.” She looked at me pleadingly. “I came right away. Henderson isn’t well enough to travel.”

Victoria stepped closer, lowering her voice. “We had our differences, but that’s all in the past. I was just a baby when everything happened -how could I possibly have had any say in what occurred? I’m completely innocent!”

She continued desperately, “I never recognized that fake Morgan. Elizabeth is my only mother, and Blake is my only brother.”

Victoria glanced at Alex and visibly recoiled.

“Victoria,” I said, cutting off her rambling, “you should rest. You look exhausted.”

She nodded eagerly. “The bone marrow matching results should be ready soon. If I can help William, you’ll put in a good word with Blake,

right?”

I nodded noncommittally. “If you help my son, I won’t forget it.”

Victoria immediately brightened. “The hospital food is terrible. I miss the chef at the Morgan Mansion. His French toast was divine.”

“The chef only cooks for Elizabeth now,” I said carefully. “But I can order something from Le Bernardin if you prefer.”

Victoria considered this, then nodded reluctantly. “I’ll focus on getting stronger for the procedure. My bone marrow needs to match

William’s.

A nurse appeared to escort Victoria back to her room.

I turned to Alex, who had been watching the entire exchange with interest.

“I have no time for you,’ I said flatly. “Please leave.”

To my surprise, Alex nodded. “I apologize for my inappropriate comments. You have enough to deal with. I’ll go.”

His sudden reasonableness made me more suspicious, not less. I watched him walk toward the elevator, hoping he wouldn’t return.

Just as Alex disappeared, the elevator doors opened again, revealing Blake carrying a thermal food container. Jessica and Olivia gave knowing smiles.

Since Mr. Morgan is here to see you personally, Jessica said with a grin, “I’ll give you some privacy!”

Before I could object, they were gone, leaving me alone with Blake in the hallway.

“Victoria came to see me, I told him immediately. “She’s offering her bone marrow for William.”

Blake’s expression darkened. “She’s trying to manipulate her way back into the family.”

“I know, I admitted. “But even if she becomes demanding later, I still hope her bone marrow matches William’s.”

Blake nodded. “I’ll have someone keep an eye on her. She won’t bother you. If the match works, I’ll deal with whatever she wants.”

“William isn’t just your responsibility,” I insisted. “If you don’t tell me what Victoria asks for, I’ll find out myself.”

To my surprise, Blake smiled-a genuine, warm smile that transformed his face.

“Are you concerned about me dealing with other women?” he asked.

My cheeks burned. “This isn’t about being considerate. It’s about fairness.”

“If I need to maintain contact with anyone,” Blake said quietly, “the only person I want that connection with is you.”

The sincerity in his voice caught me off guard. I turned away, embarrassed.

‘I should check on Aurora,” I mumbled. “She’s been struggling with William’s illness.”

I’ll stay with William, Blake said. “Make sure Aurora knows we’re fighting for her brother.”

Two days of waiting and worry,

On the third morning, I woke up in William’s room. Dark clouds covered the New York sky. Blake sat next to me, looking tense and

worried.

At eight o’clock, Jack rushed in with Dr. Hall and the medical team.

“It matched!” Jack yelled, holding up papers. “Victoria’s bone marrow matched William’s! He’s going to live!”
