Chapter 241
‘You’ve gotten better, William whispered. “That’s why I trust you’ll take care of Mom and Aurora when I’m-

“Stop.” I cut him off sharply, genuinely angry for the first time with him. “Don’t finish that sentence. You’re not going anywhere.”
William looked startled by my intensity.
‘I’ve arranged for Henderson and Victoria to be tested, I told him firmly. “We’ll find a match. I promise.
Before William could respond, movement came from the sofa. Aria and Aurora were waking up. They greeted him with warm affection, and
I let the conversation drop.

The next two days passed in a blur. William stabilized-no fevers, temporarily. I stayed at the hospital constantly, leaving William’s side
only for quick showers or clothing changes.
I made Olivia take Aurora home, but my headstrong daughter had other plans. She protested loudly and snuck to the hospital repeatedly.
Jessica caught Ethan helping Aurora during one escape attempt.
When Jessica and Rebecca arrived on work matters, they ended up advocating for Aurora.
“William and Aurora share an incredible bond, Jessica explained sympathetically. “Aurora cries herself to sleep every night, terrified for
her brother.”
I shook my head firmly. “William’s lost weight from treatments and medications. Aurora can’t see him this way.”
“But- Jessica started.
“They’re only three, I explained, rubbing my temples. “William’s condition would terrify Aurora more. And seeing his sister upset would
stress William. They’re too young for this.”
Jessica’s eyes reddened, and Olivia openly wiped tears. “Those poor children have endured so much, Olivia whispered.
I’ll organize the work files and bring them tomorrow,” Jessica offered. “Don’t worry about company matters.
Olivia touched my arm. “I’ll take Aurora and Ethan out more, keep her distracted.”
I smiled gratefully at both women, but a familiar voice behind me shattered the moment.
‘Aria.
Then I turned and froze. Alex was standing in the doorway.
The smile on my face just… stopped. My whole body went on alert before I even realized it.

Alex stood in the doorway with an expensive gift basket. My body tensed up. What was he doing here? How did he know William was in
the hospital?
‘I heard about your son, Alex said, walking in with his fake smile. I brought gifts for him. I also wanted to apologize for being so
demanding during the project negotiations.”
Jessica and Olivia looked worried. The room felt cold.
“That’s unexpected,” I said stiffly. “Thanks.”
Alex put the basket on the table. It had chocolates, toys, and what looked like a gaming console. Normally I might have appreciated it.
“Visiting hours are almost over,” I said, trying to be polite. “William needs rest. Thanks for coming, but this isn’t a good time.”
“I understand completely.” His voice oozed fake sympathy. “This must be so difficult for you.”
Something about his presence made my skin crawl. I never told him where William was staying. How did he find out? I wanted him gone.
Now.
“Perhaps we could step outside?” Alex suggested, completely ignoring my dismissal. “I’d love to see your son William, even if just through
the window.
The way he said William’s name made me want to physically push him out the door.
“He’s sleeping right now,” I said firmly. “Adults aren’t allowed in to disturb his rest.”
“Oh, that’s fine,” Alex replied, surprisingly agreeable. ‘I can just look through the window. I won’t disturb him at all.”
The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. His sudden compliance felt wrong, but I couldn’t think of a polite way to refuse without
seeming paranoid.
‘Alright. But just for a minute.”
I led him to the viewing window outside William’s room, keeping as much distance between us as the narrow hallway allowed. Jessica and Olivia followed closely behind, their protective presence giving me strength.
Through the glass, William lay sleeping, his small body connected to various machines. My heart ached seeing him so vulnerable.
“Ms. Taylor, Alex said quietly, “that little boy in there-he’s your child with Blake, isn’t he?”
