The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 232

Chapter 232

Blake’s expression was unreadable as Aurora thrust the fork toward me. My stomach tightened. This was getting too intimate, too family-

like.

“Aurora, that’s not-

“Mommy,” Aurora’s voice dropped to what she probably thought was a whisper, “families have to be nice to everyone. No… ummm…

different treating.”

“Differential treatment,” William corrected from his bed without looking up.

I felt trapped. Blake suddenly bent forward, bringing his face level with mine. His eyes locked with mine, burning with intensity that made my breath catch.

“Fine,” I muttered, taking the fork from Aurora. I scooped a small bite of chocolate cake and hesitantly held it toward Blake’s mouth. He parted his lips and took the bite, his eyes never leaving mine.

“Aria,” he said after swallowing, “it’s sweet.”

The way he said it sent heat rushing to my face. It reminded me of earlier when he’d… when he’d taken my injured finger into his mouth. I yanked my hand back quickly.

“The cake is from that bakery on 5th Avenue,” I said, turning away.

Aurora took a bite herself and exclaimed, “Mommy, this one tastes super yummy today!”

Blake smiled at her. “That’s because Aurora loves her mommy. When you deeply love someone, everything they give you tastes delicious.”

Aurora turned to me eagerly. “Does the cake I picked taste good to you too, Mommy?”

My ears burned as I nodded, desperately trying to change the subject. “Aurora, Blake has spent all afternoon with you and William. He probably needs to rest now.”

“But we playing family!” Aurora protested.

“I think your mommy is right,” Blake said gently. “I should clean up.”

I grabbed some wet wipes from my bag. “Come on, let’s get that makeup off.”

In the small bathroom attached to William’s room, Blake quickly washed his face. His wet hair somehow looked even more attractive, slicked back from his forehead. I caught myself staring and quickly looked away.

“You’re spoiling Aurora,’ I said, handing him a towel. ‘She’s going to think she can get away with anything.’

‘Aurora won’t be spoiled, Blake replied, drying his face. “You’ve raised her well.”

:))

I leaned against the counter. “How were they while I was gone?”

Blake ran a hand through his damp hair. “I never realized how exhausting children could be. I used to think business was hard work, but

this is something else entirely.”

“Try doing it for three years straight,” I said without thinking.

Blake’s expression grew serious. “Aria, I have a deeper appreciation now for what you went through, raising them alone all this time.”

I shrugged, trying to ignore how his words made my chest tighten. “I wasn’t completely alone. I had my parents, Olivia, and Ivy to help

me.”

“Still,” he insisted. “You did an amazing job with them.”

“They’re good kids,” I said, feeling uncomfortable with his praise.

Blake smiled slightly. “Aria, I thought Aurora and William only inherited their stubbornness from me. Now I’m wondering who else they

got it from.

“Are you saying I’m stubborn?” I raised an eyebrow.

“I’m saying our children are exactly who they should be,” he replied.

Something warm spread through my chest at his words “our children.” I cleared my throat. “You should probably head back to the office. Jessica mentioned your entire staff is adjusting their sleep schedules to match yours.”

“Are you worried about my employees?” Blake asked, amusement in his voice.

“I’m worried about you working until 3 AM every night,” I replied honestly.

Blake nodded. “You’re right. I’ll go back now and handle things. I’ll stop by tomorrow, if that’s okay?”

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. Blake gathered his things, looking back several times before finally leaving.

When I returned to the room, Aurora was searching around. “Where Blake uncle go?”

“He had to go back to work,” I told her, sitting on the edge of William’s bed. ‘Aurora, you shouldn’t have put makeup on him.”

“But he looked pretty!” she insisted. “He’s lucky Aurora picked him. Not everyone gets Aurora’s special makeovers.”

I couldn’t help but smile. The powerful Blake, completely at the mercy of a three-year-old with lip gloss and stickers. Something stirred in my chest at the sight something I wasn’t ready to face.
