Chapter 229
BLAKE
ร 46
The nurse’s words hit me in the chest. I watched Aria’s face go pale as she stood up, her finger still bleeding where I had just… I mentally
kicked myself. Not now.
We walked into Dr. Hall’s office where Richard, Elaine, and Olivia were already waiting. Their faces told me everything before the doctor
spoke.
‘I’m sorry,” Dr. Hall said, “but the bone marrow doesn’t match.”
“What?” Olivia burst out. “How is that possible? Blake is William’s father!”
Dr. Hall explained, “Parent-child bone marrow matches only work about 50% of the time. This happens a lot.”
I stood there, numb. Another failure. Another way I couldn’t help my son.
Elaine stepped forward. “Let’s not panic. There are other options.”
Aria nodded, her jaw tight. “I won’t give up. William needs us to stay strong.”
Richard suggested moving William home once his wound healed. “Kids do better at home. Too much hospital time isn’t good for them.”
As everyone headed back to William’s room, I noticed Aria hanging back. When she thought no one was looking, her shoulders started shaking. I wanted to comfort her, but knew she wouldn’t want my touch. The silent tears on her face broke something inside me.
I’d find a way to help my son. I had to.
Two days passed. William improved rapidly, moving from intensive care to a regular room. The doctors said his stab wound was healing well. Aurora spent every moment by her brother’s side, watching him with worried eyes.
I sat quietly in the corner of William’s room when Jessica’s urgent call shattered the peaceful silence. Aria’s face grew tense as she listened, her assistant’s frazzled voice carrying through the phone about company emergencies that demanded her immediate attention.
Aria’s eyes darted between her sleeping children and the phone, her internal struggle visible. She whispered about needing to stay, but Jessica’s insistence made it clear that only Aria could handle whatever crisis had erupted.
The weight of impossible choices pressed down on her. Elaine and Richard were exhausted and needed rest. Olivia was consumed with handling Matthew’s disappearance. There was no one else.
Aria’s gaze finally landed on me, reluctance and desperation warring in her expression. She had no choice but to trust me with William and Aurora, despite everything between us.

Chapter 229
:
“Four hours, maximum,” she said quietly, her voice tight with worry and resignation.
As she gathered her things, giving me hurried instructions about medications and schedules, I saw the pain it caused her to leave them with me. The children slept peacefully, unaware of their mother’s turmoil.
When Aria finally left, her backward glance filled with anxiety, I felt the weight of her reluctant trust. It wasn’t forgiveness, but it was something-a crack in the wall between us, born of necessity rather than choice.
‘Don’t get too excited,” came a small voice from behind me. “Mom didn’t trust you. She just didn’t have a choice.”
I turned to find William awake, watching me with eyes that were too knowing for a three-year-old.
“I thought you were asleep,” I said, moving closer to his bed.
‘I fake it sometimes,” he replied, pushing himself up against his pillows. “My nap only lasts thirty minutes anyway. It’s my bio-clock.
I couldn’t help smiling. “That’s pretty disciplined for someone your age.”
William shrugged. “Someone had to be the man of the house.”
The words stung, but I deserved them. “William, I—’
“Whatever,” he interrupted, reaching for a tablet beside his bed. “I gotta check something.”
I watched as his small fingers flew across the screen with surprising dexterity. “Work stuff,” he said casually. “Don’t tell Mom.”
“Work stuff?” I repeated, confused.
William sighed dramatically. “Yeah, work. I own a company.”
I thought he was joking until he turned the tablet toward me. On screen was a complex dashboard showing user statistics, revenue charts, and development timelines.
“This is yours?” I asked, genuinely shocked.
I leaned closer, recognizing the logo. “Wait, this is StarQuest Adventures? The mobile game?”
William nodded, a hint of pride crossing his face.
