Chapter 220
:
“Hurry!” I pressed the wadded-up jacket against the wound. William’s face had turned ghostly white.
Blake gunned the engine, weaving through traffic at terrifying speed. “How is he?”
“Getting worse, I choked out. “William, baby, stay with me. Don’t sleep. Look at Mommy.”
Nothing. His skin felt cold and clammy under my fingers.
“William, please, my voice broke completely. “Mommy needs you. Aurora needs her big brother. We all need you.”
The car swerved violently as Blake took a corner.
“His blood disease makes this worse,” I said, panic rising in my chest. “He can’t lose this much blood!”
Blake’s eyes met mine in the rearview mirror. Tears streamed down his face as he drove.

“William,” I pleaded, rocking him. “Remember our special tree in the park? You promised to take Aurora there when she’s bigger. You gotta
keep that promise, buddy.”
No response. His breathing grew more labored.
“God,” I sobbed, holding him closer. “Don’t take him from me. Please don’t take him.”
Blake drove maniacally through Manhattan, running red lights, cutting corners, honking continuously.
My phone buzzed. Olivia’s name flashed on the screen.
“We’re right behind you,’ she said when I answered. “Kevin’s cleared traffic ahead. Richard and Elaine contacted the hospital. They’re ready
for you.”
I couldn’t even thank her properly, just sobbed an ‘okay’ before hanging up.
A glance back showed a line of cars following us-friends forming a protective escort through the city.
William stirred slightly, his eyelids fluttering. “Mommy?” he whispered, barely audible.
“Yes, baby, I’m here!” I kissed his forehead.
“Is Aurora okay?” he asked, worried about his sister even now.
“She’s fine, I lied, having no idea what was happening with Aurora. “Everyone’s okay. Just focus on staying with me.”

Chapter 220
‘Hurts a lot, he whimpered.
“I know, baby. My tears fell onto his face. ‘We’re almost there. Just hang on a little longer.”
His unfocused gaze drifted toward Blake in the driver’s seat. “Is that… Daddy?”
The question hit me hard. Blake’s sharp intake of breath told me he’d heard it too.
*Just rest, William,” I whispered, unable to answer. “Save your strength.”
“He looks sad, William mumbled. “Tell him… not his fault.”
My throat closed up completely. Even dying, my son showed more forgiveness than I could muster.
We screeched to a halt outside Redwood Medical Center. I didn’t wait for Blake, pushing the door open myself and running toward the
entrance with William clutched against me.
“My son’s been stabbed!” I screamed as I burst through the doors. “He’s only three! He has a blood disorder!”
Medical staff swarmed us immediately. A doctor tried to take William from my arms.
“Ma’am, we need to examine him,” he said firmly.
“No,” I held him tighter. “I can’t let him go.”
A surgeon stepped forward. “Every second counts. We need to stop the bleeding and start a transfusion immediately.”
Reluctantly, I released my grip. They placed William on a gurney, cutting away his bloody clothes, attaching monitors, inserting IVs.
“BP dropping fast!”
“We need O-neg, stat!”
“Get him to OR 3!”
I stood frozen, watching them work on my son’s tiny body. His blood covered my hands, my wedding dress, my bare feet.
“We’re taking him to surgery now,” the surgeon told me. “The team is already prepped and waiting.”
“His blood condition- I started.
“The hospital was notified. We’re prepared.” He squeezed my shoulder briefly. “Wait here.”

Chapter 220
I watched through the window as they wheeled William down the hallway, doctors running alongside the gurney, until the double doors to the surgical wing swung shut.
My legs gave out. The adrenaline that had kept me going suddenly vanished. The fluorescent lights above me blurred.
“Aria!” Blake called out, reaching for me.
