Chapter 217

BLAKE

47

Emma’s face went ghost-white. “That recording… it’s fake! Someone doctored it!’ Her voice cracked. “You can’t actually believe this crap!”

Something inside me shattered. All those years defending her. All those times shutting down anyone who questioned her-Aria, Matthew, even Victoria. I’d been such a fool.

Emma’s eyes darted around the room frantically. “Blake, come on. You know me. I couldn’t hurt a fly.”

“Shut up, I snapped. “Just shut the hell up.”

The guests froze, watching everything unfold. This should’ve been Aria’s wedding day, but it had turned into this nightmare.

The doors burst open. Jack sprinted in, clutching a laptop, sweat pouring down his face.

“Mr. Morgan!” he shouted. “We got it! The tech team recovered the deleted security footage from Redwood!”

Emma lunged toward him, clawing at the laptop. “Give me that!”

Jack dodged her, and two security guards stepped forward to restrain her as she thrashed wildly.

Jack connected his laptop to the projector, and the wedding screen now showed the sterile corridors of Redwood Medical Center.

“This footage is from three years ago,” Jack explained, “the exact day Aaron Taylor died.”

There she was-Emma in a black hoodie and sunglasses, moving through the hospital hallway. The timestamp matched perfectly with my

father-in-law’s death.

Emma thrashed against the guards. “That’s not me! It could be anybody!”

Then the camera caught her face as she glanced up. Later, the same figure hurrying out, her sleeves and front darkened with wet patches.

Game over.

The whispers erupted.

“Holy shit…”

“She drowned him…”

“I thought we were here for cake and champagne, not a murder mystery…”

“How’d she fool everyone for so long?”

Emma collapsed to her knees, mascara running down her cheeks. “No, no, I didn’t mean to! I swear I didn’t mean to-”

She grabbed a chair and hurled it at the projector. Glass shattered. Electronic parts scattered across the floor.

Chaos erupted. Security guards backed away, momentarily distracted. Emma scrambled toward me, falling to her knees, grabbing my pants

leg.

“Blake, please!” she begged. “You have to believe me! I never wanted him dead!”

I stepped back, her touch making my skin crawl. “Then what exactly did you want, Emma?”

“He knew,” she sobbed. “Aaron found out I wasn’t really Richard and Elaine’s daughter. He was gonna tell everyone! I’d lose everything- my name, my inheritance, my whole damn life!”

She looked up at me, desperate. “And I was terrified… terrified that if everyone found out Aria was their real daughter, you’d fall for her again. You two were getting closer every day, and I couldn’t handle it.”

The room went dead silent. Aria gasped.

“So you murdered an innocent man to keep your secret?” My words came out hard and cold.

Emma clutched my legs harder. “Blake, I screwed up! I know that! But I can change! I’ll do anything-absolutely anything. Just don’t throw

me away!”

I looked down at her tear-streaked face and felt nothing but disgust. “You killed a man, framed another for it, and lied straight to my face for three years. And you think I should what-forgive and forget?”

“Please,” she whimpered. “After everything we’ve been through-

“What we had was built on lies,’ I cut her off. “Every moment, every promise, every night together-all of it was fake.”

I pulled away from her grip. “Your fate isn’t my decision to make. That right belongs to Aria. She’s the one you truly destroyed.”

Emma’s face transformed in an instant, desperation morphing into pure rage. She jumped to her feet, eyes blazing.

“Blake,” she spat, “ever heard the saying ‘new love makes you smile, old love makes you cry? Your heart is completely cold! After everything I’ve sacrificed for you!”

I stared at her, stunned by the instant transformation. “Even now, you show zero remorse?”

Emma laughed—a harsh, unhinged sound that made everyone flinch. “Why should I apologize? This is all YOUR fault! ALL OF YOU!” She waved her arms wildly. “You think I wanted to kill anyone? I HAD NO CHOICE!”

She straightened up, running fingers through her golden hair. “You think I enjoyed lying to you, Blake? Hell no! But what other option did

I have?”
