Chapter 165

Jessica rushed in with news about Emma. A crazed fan had stabbed her after the “not Nina’s star pupil’ scandal broke. She was in the

hospital.

Blake had already wiped all negative coverage online. Emma released a humble statement denying she ever claimed to be Nina’s favorite.

The public bought it.

After Jessica left, I checked social media. Every platform praised Emma. Anyone questioning her got suspended. Blake was using his

money and power to control the narrative.

God, it made my blood boil. Blake was using his power to protect Emma – the same woman who tried to sabotage my daughter’s dance

performance. The woman he consistently chose over his own children. I slammed my laptop shut.

“Is that mean man helping the lady who didn’t want my sister to dance?”

I whipped around to find William in the doorway, his little face unusually serious. I quickly composed myself.

“William, sweetie, how long have you been standing there?”

“Long enough.” His voice was calm – way too calm for a three-year-old. “I know he’s not a good daddy.”

Those words hit me like a truck. William stared down at his tiny sneakers.

“He’s always gonna pick her instead of us, huh? Instead of me and Rory.”

I immediately went to him, dropping to his eye level. “Listen to me, buddy. This isn’t about you or your sister not being good enough. This

is about Blake making really bad choices. This is his mess-up, not yours.”

I could see the struggle in his eyes. For all his tough talk about disliking Blake, he was still just a little boy wanting his father’s attention.

“Mom, you won’t ever pick somebody else over us, right?”

“Never,’ I said, hugging him tight. “You and Aurora are my whole world.”

William hugged back. “We only love you, Mom. You’re our favorite and we won’t let anyone be mean to you.”

His words were sweet but had an edge that worried me. William was too smart for a three-year-old and already had access to assets I’d set

up for him.

“William, don’t do anything bad, okay?”

He looked at me with those serious eyes. ‘I’ll be good, Mom. Promise.”

I suggested we go find Aurora, and William nodded eagerly. At home, Aurora launched herself at me the moment we walked in.

“Mommy!” she squealed as I caught her mid-flight.

“Hey, princess!” I laughed, setting William down to properly hug my daughter. “Been good for godmom Olivia?”

Olivia walked in from the kitchen, smiling. “Richard and Elaine got us a private room at that fancy new place downtown. They’re throwing a little party for Aurora’s first ballet class.”

“That’s really sweet of them,” I said, genuinely touched by how the Grants had embraced my kids.

“Girl, these older folks will use any excuse for a party!” Olivia laughed.

Aurora tugged at my skirt. “Mommy, can Uncle Blake come to my ballet party? Please?”

The room went silent. I felt my face freeze.

“Rory, honey, that’s not a good idea,” I said, keeping my voice gentle.

“But why not? He’s my friend!”

‘Aurora, Blake is… friends with that mean judge who didn’t want you to get the solo dance,” I explained, hoping she’d get it.

Aurora frowned. “But Uncle Blake told me they’re just work friends. He promised nobody gets to be mean to me ever.”

My jaw clenched. Blake was playing both sides – backing Emma while telling Aurora he’d protect her. The man had zero shame.

Before I could respond, the doorbell rang.

“Must be Richard and Elaine,” Olivia said, heading for the door.

When she opened it, we all froze at the sight of a small boy, about three years old, standing there alone.

Olivia went white as a sheet. “What the-

“Mommy!” the boy shouted cheerfully, looking straight at Olivia.

I shot Olivia a shocked look. She shook her head frantically. “I don’t know this kid!”

“You ARE my mommy,” the boy insisted. ‘Daddy showed me your pictures!”
