Chapter 164
Her movement caused fresh blood to flow from her wound. I pressed a clean handkerchief against it.
“You need medical attention first. The rest can wait.”

Emma looked broken, vulnerable in a way I hadn’t seen in years. Something in me softened despite my determination to keep my
distance.
“I know you care about that Ayra,” she said quietly. “But can you promise me something? Even if you fall for someone else, don’t freeze
me out like you did these past three years. Don’t shut me out.”
I stayed silent, watching her pale face.
“All I want is for us to be like we were before Aria disappeared. You were always there for me, even then.”

The pain in my back was excruciating, but I forced myself to focus. This was my chance. Blake was here, concern evident in his eyes despite his attempt to stay detached. I had to play this perfectly.
I remembered how Blake treated me before Aria’s disappearance-always putting me first, rushing to my side whenever I needed him. Then she died,” and Blake changed. He withdrew from everyone, including me. But now she’s back, and I need to make sure history
doesn’t repeat itself in the wrong way.
“I just can’t let go of our thirteen years of friendship,” I said, fighting through the pain to sound sincere. “I need you, Blake. I need you to
have my back like you always did before you thought she died.”
Blake’s expression hardened. “Emma, if you need a boyfriend, I can hook you up with someone.”
His words came slow and deliberate. ‘I can’t always be your safety net.”
I felt the ground shift beneath me. This wasn’t the response I expected. When I sobbed that I had nothing left, he didn’t even flinch. His coldness was new-different from before. He’d been distant these past three years, but this was something else entirely.
All my strength drained away, the pain in my back suddenly more intense. My plan wasn’t working. I couldn’t use the same strategy that
had worked when Aria was around.
“I’ll find my own boyfriend,” I managed to say, my mind already racing toward a new approach.
‘I’ll take care of the online stuff about Nina, Blake offered unexpectedly.
A flicker of hope returned. He still had a soft spot for me after all, I decided to test his limits.

Chapter 164
“Nina actually egged people on to mock me online,’ I said, watching his reaction. The memory stung. She’d shot down my offer to teach Aurora, calling me a manipulative schemer with a head full of twisted plots. Said I was born bad. Her words still echoed in my mind, cutting deeper than I wanted to admit.

I paused, then suggested, “Maybe we should nudge Nina toward retirement? She’s getting up there anyway. She could step down from the
American Dance Association chair, go home, and put her feet up.”
Blake’s response was immediate and ice-cold. “No.”
“Nina may not like you, but she’s always had Aria’s back,” he continued. “I’ve looked into Aria and Nina’s history. I know Nina helped Aria
when Christine was making her life hell.”
My face froze. I forced a contrite expression. “I’m just being emotional because it hurts so bad.”
“Since you admit you’re not thinking straight, Blake said flatly, “maybe you should stop talking.”
The ambulance arrived, paramedics rushing to treat my wound. As they lifted me onto the stretcher, Blake asked the doctor if my injury would mess up my dance career. The question warmed me despite everything.
I knew then that I still had a chance. The fire we survived thirteen years ago had forged a bond Blake couldn’t easily break. He still cared for me, despite discovering Aria was alive.
Aria might have returned from the dead, but she would never reclaim Blake’s heart. I would make damn sure of that.
