The CEO's Regret: His Lost Wife's Secret Twins novel Chapter 158

Chapter 158

“Someone else?” Anger flared inside me. “You think I wouldn’t know the woman I’ve dreamed about every night for three years? The woman I grieved for? The woman I- I stopped myself from saying more.

The fury building inside me was dangerous. I’d spent three years building walls around the pain, becoming the cold, ruthless businessman everyone expected. And here she was, tearing those walls down with each denial.

She straightened her spine. “Thanks for stepping in with your sister, but this has gone way too far. I’m leaving.”

When she tried to move past me, I caught her wrist and pressed her palm against my chest, right over my pounding heart.

“Feel that?” I demanded. “You still think I’m wrong? You can change your looks, your name, even how you talk. But I know your scent, your skin, how you move. I know you, Aria.”

“Get off me!” she suddenly shouted, punching my chest with her free hand.

I didn’t budge. Instead, I smiled. “There she is. My fiery Aria. Only you would have the guts to hit me like that.”

“Are you crazy?” she snapped, her breathing accelerated. “I’m Arya. I don’t know you, and I don’t appreciate being manhandled!”

Her anger only confirmed what I already knew. This was my Aria. No stranger would react with such raw emotion. The way her eyes flashed, the slight tremble in her voice when she was angry – these were things I’d memorized.

“You’re trying so hard to keep this act going,” I said, studying her face. “Why? Are you scared of me? Or scared of what happens when you admit who you really are?”

“There’s no act,” she insisted, but her voice wavered. “Let go of me. Right now.”

“You’re in such a rush to get out of here, I observed, suspicion growing. “Someone waiting for you out there?”

Her eyes widened briefly before she controlled her reaction. “No! I came to dinner alone. There’s nobody.”

But I caught it that flash of panic. Someone was out there. Someone she didn’t want me to see. Jealousy, dark and possessive, surged through me. Who had she been with these past three years? Who had taken her from me?

“Then let’s go out together and check, I suggested, tightening my grip on her wrist. “If nobody’s waiting, what’s the problem?”

Pure panic flashed across her face-more than when I’d recognized her. This was different. This was tear.

“Why are you so scared?” I pressed. “Who’s out there, Aria?”

“Stop calling me that!” she hissed, trying desperately to break free.

I wasn’t letting go. Not again. If someone was waiting for her-someone who might be the reason she was pretending not to know me-I needed to find out. Was she being threatened? Controlled? The thought made my blood boil.

“We’re going out there, I decided, pulling her toward the door. “Right now.”

Her face turned ashen. ‘Please don’t.”

Those two words, barely whispered, hit harder than her punch. For the first time since finding her, I wondered what nightmare she’d been living in these past three years-and who might be enforcing her silence.

I saw something desperate flash in her eyes-a cornered animal ready to do anything to escape. She glanced at a heavy crystal vase on the nearby table. Was she actually considering…?

Before either of us could move, the door burst open. Matthew stood there, his expression shifting from concern to anger when he saw us.

“Morgan,” he said coldly, “we’ve always had an understanding about not interfering in each other’s affairs. But grabbing my soon-to-be fiancée like this? What exactly are you doing?”

Soon-to-be fiancée? I looked from Matthew to the woman in my arms, watching her face for any sign of denial. There was none.
