Chapter 147
ARIA
In this crisis, someone grabbed my arm from behind, pulling me back as Victoria and Emma approached. Matthew pushed between them,
his face set with determination.
“Truly unbelievable, Matthew said, voice ice-cold. “An elegant gala infiltrated by two lunatic women.”
Victoria’s mouth dropped open. “Matt! What are you doing here?” She quickly recovered, voice turning sugary sweet. “You don’t understand what’s happening. This woman has been trying to seduce you-
“Aria is my girlfriend, Matthew interrupted, words echoing through the suddenly silent room. “Show her some respect.”
The air went still. Everyone froze mid-conversation, glasses suspended halfway to lips. I struggled to keep my face neutral while my brain went into complete meltdown. Girlfriend? Was he serious? We barely acknowledged each other in private! What game was he playing
now?
Victoria’s face twisted with rage. “That’s impossible! Those videos with you are Al-generated fakes. I’ve always been the model daughter.” She jabbed a finger toward me. “She’s known as Europe’s ugliest woman! Everyone knows it!”
Matthew didn’t even blink. “Your private life means absolutely nothing to me, Victoria.”
He turned to me, his expression softening in a way I’d never seen before. “Love has nothing to do with appearances. My feelings for you aren’t some impulsive decision but something that has withstood the test of time.”
The room went completely silent as he continued, “I’ve loved you for a very long time. No matter what you look like, I will protect you
until my last breath.”
I stood frozen, heart hammering against my ribs. What the actual hell?
‘Matt, how can you do this to me?’ Victoria’s voice cracked, mascara beginning to run.
“When I care for someone, I do so completely, Matthew replied coldly. I don’t seek other distractions or pleasures.
He stared directly at Victoria. ‘I’ve known about your behavior for some time. I’ve maintained my gentlemanly conduct, but my patience
has limits.
The crowd remained silent, but their eyes said everything-the slight nods, the knowing glances. Victoria looked around, seeing her social capital evaporating before her eyes. She rushed out of the ballroom, shoulders hunched in humiliation.
Emma quickly tried changing tactics. “I said all along Aria couldn’t possibly have anything inappropriate with my father,” she smiled, “Just a misunderstanding!”

Chapter 147
“Cut the crap, Emma, Matthew scoffed. “You were fanning the flames moments ago. Don’t pretend to be understanding now.”
Emma’s face flushed. “I was misled.” Her smile turned nasty. “Though someone so young achieving business success must have used…
alternative methods. We all know how these things work.”
That was it. I stepped forward, anger replacing shock. Nobody questions my work ethic. Nobody.
“Miss Grant,” I said firmly, “just because you can’t accomplish something doesn’t mean others can’t. Not everyone sleeps their way to the
top.
I straightened my shoulders. “Nouvelle Retail Group’s success comes from hard work-mine and my team’s. We’ve put in eighteen-hour days, sacrificed weekends, and risked everything. We’ve never used underhanded tactics.”
Emma, desperate for the last word, blurted, “My father repeatedly speaking on your behalf in Europe is fact! How do you explain that?”
Matthew’s patience visibly snapped. “Emma, if your brain isn’t working properly, you should join Victoria at the hospital! Seriously, get
yourself checked out!”
The crowd murmured as he continued, “The daughter of a murderer has no right questioning Arya’s integrity. She built Nouvelle Retail Group through sheer ability and determination.”
Whispers erupted around us. “Wait, Christine’s daughter?” “Wasn’t Christine the murderer who destroyed the Grants?” “That explains so much!” “No wonder she’s attacking Arya-pure jealousy.”
Emma stood trembling, face ashen. For the first time, she was experiencing what it felt like being labeled “a murderer’s daughter.” The shoe was finally on the other foot, and it didn’t seem to fit so well. She tried retreating from attention, but Samuel approached with
security guards.
“This person wasn’t invited,” Samuel announced coldly. “Remove her immediately.”
The guards escorted a struggling Emma out. “This isn’t over!” she shouted as they pulled her through the doors.
Samuel turned to me with an appreciative nod. “That was quite a show.”
