The ballroom went dead silent. Richard Grant-the supposedly perfect family man-accused of having a mistress? Unthinkable.
Whispers exploded through the crowd. The Grants were one of New York’s big four families, alongside the Morgans, Halls, and Redwoods.
Richard had always been the model husband with the perfect marriage.
“No, that’s absolutely impossible!” Emma’s voice sliced through the murmurs. She stepped forward, face flushed with emotion. “My father
would never betray my mother! Never!”
I found it interesting how despite cutting ties with her family years ago, Emma was now fiercely defending her father.
“If there’s a problem,” she continued, hands trembling, “it must be someone else’s fault. My parents have a perfect relationship.”
Victoria seized this opportunity with predatory precision. She glided to stand beside Emma, her dress rustling as she positioned herself
strategically.
“Emma’s right, Victoria said. She turned to face me, eyes narrowing. “The problem lies with this Arya woman-this calculating nobody
who doesn’t know her place.”
God, she was so transparent it was almost funny.
“She’s clearly taking advantage of Mr. Grant’s kindness, Victoria continued, her voice getting louder for the audience’s benefit. “She’s tarnishing his reputation!” Victoria turned to Samuel. “Samuel, you should be careful. You don’t want your reputation ruined by associating with such an indecent woman.”
I watched Samuel’s face darken. He stepped back slightly, creating distance between us. The doubt in his eyes was clear-he had believed I was being misunderstood, but now uncertainty clouded his judgment.
This whole performance was ridiculous. Victoria was being careful-she wanted to attack me but didn’t dare completely offend the Grant family. Her real goal was obvious: keep Matthew away from me.
These two women really were a perfect match as future in-laws-both equally venomous.
I straightened my posture and met Victoria’s gaze. “You must be the Morgan family’s daughter, correct?’
Victoria lifted her chin. “Yes, I am. And you should apologize for your inappropriate behavior.”
‘I haven’t done anything wrong. Why would I apologize?” I maintained my composure, refusing to be intimidated.
‘Your accusations about my character are interesting,” I continued. “But they seem more fitting when applied to yourself, don’t you

think?’
Victoria’s eyes widened. “How dare you!”
“Before accusing others of indecency, perhaps you should look in a mirror and examine your own behavior first?”
The room grew even quieter. Everyone was watching our exchange, breath held.
“People with dirty minds see filth everywhere they look,” I stated calmly.
Victoria’s face contorted with rage. “You social climber! You dare insult me at an event like this?”

“I’m simply stating facts,” I replied, taking a few steps toward her. “Nothing more.”
Victoria backed up slightly as I approached. I lowered my voice just enough that only those closest could hear. “I believe Jason warned you
not to provoke me carelessly.”
The tension in the room was palpable. No one dared speak.
Victoria hesitated for just a moment, showing a flash of fear, before she recovered her Morgan family arrogance.
“You disgusting, shameless woman! You’re threatening me?” Victoria sneered. “I come from an esteemed family. I have impeccable character. Do you really think I would be intimidated by someone like you? I don’t even know who you really are behind that ridiculous
mask.
Her eyes darted to my mask, clearly itching to tear it off and expose me. That would be a disaster. The last thing I needed was for everyone to realize Arya Taylor was actually Aria Taylor, back from the dead.
I smiled slightly. This was exactly what I’d been waiting for.
‘Let me show everyone here how the young lady from the Morgan family demonstrates her ‘refined upbringing,” I announced.
Before Victoria could respond, the large projection screen behind us activated automatically. The room darkened slightly as images
appeared on screen.
What followed was unmistakably Victoria in a hotel room with multiple men-four or five of them. The video quality was crystal clear, leaving nothing to the imagination.
