I didn’t answer, but Olivia had already figured it out.
“William’s blood disorder requires a bone marrow transplant and hematopoietic stem cells,” Olivia said, her medical knowledge apparent.
Suddenly her expression changed as realization hit her. “Wait. Is that the real reason you came back to New York?”
“Yes,” I admitted, looking directly into her eyes. “I came back to wait for Emma and Blake to get married and have a child. I need their
baby’s cord blood.”
“Cord blood?” Olivia gasped. “For William’s treatment?”
*Exactly. A half-sibling from the same father has a much higher chance of being a match, I explained, keeping my voice steady despite
the tightness in my throat. “It’s our best hope.”
“My God, Aria, Olivia shook her head in disbelief. “You’re really going all in for William this time!”
“If it means William can be free from pain and live a healthy life, I’d do anything,” I said firmly. “Absolutely anything.”
The determination in my voice surprised even me. But when I thought about William’s tiny body wracked with pain during his bad episodes, his brave smile despite everything he endured-there was nothing I wouldn’t do. No risk too great. No sacrifice too much.
Olivia leaned forward, concern etched on her face. “Getting cord blood isn’t simple, Aria. Emma is…” she paused, searching for words. “She’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. A heartless woman behind that sweet facade.”
I nodded. Just thinking about her made my jaw clench. That woman had taken everything from me and still wanted more.
“And Blake doesn’t even know you’re alive, Olivia continued. “He has no idea about the twins. How exactly do you plan to pull this off?”
I’ve thought it through,” I said. “I’ll wait for Matthew to return from his volunteer work. Then we’ll figure out how to get the cord blood directly from Redwood Medical Center when Emma delivers.”
“And then what?”
‘It won’t harm the baby or Emma. Blake will never know,” I explained. “The cord blood would normally be discarded anyway.”
Olivia frowned. “But what if Blake… what if he has no intention of getting engaged to Emma? What if he doesn’t plan to have children
with her at all?”
I shook my head confidently. “Not possible.”

“How can you be so sure?”

‘Because Blake would only want children with Emma-the woman who saved his life,” I said, the words burning my throat. “Three years
ago, Emma made it clear she wanted to have his children. And Blake has kept her by his side all this time. That says everything.”
Morgan Global Enterprises had become one of the world’s top business conglomerates under Blake’s leadership. Even abroad, I couldn’t
escape news about him. Forbes and Business Week named him “Wall Street’s Most Charming Billionaire” and “America’s Hottest Bachelor.”
Every time I saw his face on a magazine cover or business news segment, my heart did that stupid little flip. Three years, and my body still betrayed me this way. I hated myself for it. I’d force myself to remember those days-his cold indifference, the way he simply didn’t care, how he believed Emma over me without hesitation. And all the physical pain he’d put me through. My leg was ruined – my dancing
days were over. And he was also responsible for my father’s death.
And always by his side was Emma, celebrated as Blake’s “one and only goddess. Three years ago, when Emma left the Grant family, Blake immediately stepped in. He provided support, paved her way forward. He fought for top resources for her, secured connections in the industry, even arranged for her to become the face of Morgan Retail Group.
The photographs of them together at galas and premieres were everywhere. His hand on the small of her back. Her adoring gaze. The golden couple. Childhood sweethearts. They must have sealed their perfect fairy tale by now.
I swallowed hard, pushing away the stabbing pain in my chest. Their happiness was my son’s salvation. I needed to remember that. It didn’t matter what Blake and I once had-William’s life was all that mattered now.
“What happened to us?” Olivia sighed. “Two promising young women, both tangled up with the absolute worst men on earth.
I reached over and squeezed her hand. “We got the best part of the deal, though. Our children are the greatest happiness in our lives.”
She smiled at that. “Your twins-William and Aurora-and soon, my Ethan.”
“I worried he might inherit David’s… less favorable qualities,” Olivia admitted, her voice dropping. “But from everything the doctors say, Ethan seems perfect. Strong heartbeat, active. Nothing at all like his father.”
Her face brightened. “With genes this good, I’m almost tempted to have a daughter next while I’m still young!”
We both laughed, and for a moment, the weight of our plans lifted. But the reality of my situation quickly returned. I was gambling everything on this plan. William needed that cord blood, and I had exactly one shot to get it.
AURORA
I sneaked out of the house, my new red velvet dance shoes super quiet on the floor. I checked the hallway mirror one more time-the weird purple in my eyes was totally gone now. Mommy always got worried when they turned purple. She’d make that scared face and give me yucky medicine.
The garden outside our villa looked amazing! So many fountains and fish ponds everywhere! My tummy felt all buzzy with excitement. This was a big-big adventure! Mommy always told me to stay inside when she wasn’t watching, but I really, really wanted to see those

orange fish swimming around. Maybe I could be super fast and see them and come back before she finished her grown-up talk with
godmom Olivia.

I ran toward the biggest fountain, feeling bouncy in my new shoes. They made me dance better-1 just knew it! The marble steps around the big pond were so tall! I wanted to climb up and see the koi fish that godmom Olivia told me about. She said they were magic fish that brought good luck. Maybe they could make William stop having owies all the time..
But those steps were super slippery. I tried climbing up but kept sliding back down. My knees hurt from falling so many times, but I wasn’t giving up. Mommy says I’m stubborn just how she was when little. I wanted to see those fish! William would want to hear all about
them when I got home.
“Just one more try,” I told myself, grabbing the edge of the marble. My fingers felt cold on the smooth stone. I imagined being a brave explorer discovering treasure fish!
I pushed really hard with my feet, but then-oh no!-my hands slipped! I felt myself falling backward, straight toward the deep water. My tummy went whoosh! I couldn’t even scream-nothing came out of my mouth. Water was scary! I couldn’t swim yet! Mommy would be so
mad and so sad!
Just when I thought I was going to splash into the water, a strong hand grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
