Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 7

Suppressing her nausea, Summer picked up the documents, verified that her resignation had been signed, and walked out without a backward glance.

She headed straight to the HR Director's office.

"You're leaving next Tuesday? That's awfully fast. It's already Friday."

Summer offered a polite smile. "Mr. Sterling wants to keep it quiet to prevent panic in the R&D department. I appreciate you expediting this for me. I'll be in to hand over my projects on Tuesday."

The HR Director flashed an okay sign. "Don't worry, I have enough professional integrity for that."

With her resignation secured, it was time to figure out her next steps.

Back in her office, Summer pulled herself together and dialed Gavin Loomis, her former university senior.

Gavin picked up immediately, teasing her. "Well, if it isn't a rare guest. What made you think of me?"

Summer put on a sweet voice. "Gavin, I quit my job. Can I come crash at your place? Please take me in!"

"You? Quit?"

It was unthinkable for Summer to leave the Sterling Group. Back then, her mentor had threatened to cut all ties just to keep her from joining.

But Summer had been blinded by love. She had turned down prestigious government offers to join the Sterling Group when they were just stepping into the AI sector.

She had helped Xavier build the company from scratch into an absolute empire.

Today, the Sterling Group dominated multiple industries, from smart home devices and appliances to cutting-edge AI healthcare tech, leaving domestic competitors in the dust.

While it wasn't entirely her doing, it was no exaggeration to say she was responsible for at least eighty percent of their success.

Gavin scoffed. "Are you pulling my leg again? Pranking your senior is a serious offense, you know."

"I wouldn't dare," Summer replied earnestly. "Where are you right now? I'll come find you so we can talk."
