Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 29

Just thinking about those two police officers made Xavier's blood boil. He felt like a complete fool who had been kept in the dark.

"Why did you call the cops?"

There was no hiding it now. The estate had called Xavier to inform him that his grandfather had been taken to the police station for questioning.

Summer let out a cold laugh. "Your grandfather beat my son black and blue, and you're asking me why I called the cops?"

"He wasn't doing it maliciously! He just wants the boy to succeed. That entire generation thinks the same way—they believe strict discipline and physical hardship build character. How could you just call the police on him? Why didn't you talk to me first?"

"Why didn't I tell you? Ask her," Summer sneered, shooting a venomous look at Lily.

Lily looked perfectly innocent as she explained, "Your clothes were dirty from the bar, so you were in the shower. I answered the phone when Summer called, but she didn't say what it was about. I assumed it wasn't urgent."

Summer scoffed. "I thought Julian invited you out for a drink. Did you drink your way all the way to her house? You were showering at another woman's place in the middle of the night, and you expected me to chat with her? And the fact that she asked who was calling—did you delete my number?"

Xavier didn't look guilty in the slightest. "My phone was acting up. All my contacts got wiped."

He brushed it off effortlessly and immediately pivoted. "And for the record, Julian didn't invite just me. A whole group of us went out. Someone spilled a drink on my shirt, and Julian was right there when it happened. If you don't believe me, ask him."

"But how could you call the police about Leo without telling me? Do you have any idea how much damage this will cause?"

The Sterling family's reputation would take a massive hit, and the company's stock prices would undoubtedly plummet.

"The family has made it very clear. If you don't drop the charges and go back to the estate to personally apologize to my grandfather, our wedding will be indefinitely postponed."

Summer burst out laughing. Did he actually think she cared?

What a joke.

She didn't even want the man anymore; why would she care about some superficial wedding—especially when the wedding was never really meant for her anyway?

Xavier was stunned that she had the nerve to laugh.
