Alice lowered her eyes. “Nothing How long will you stay in Peking?

Jack’s hand paused. “Why are you asking?”
“Nothing” She focused on her rice.
Jack blurted out, I don’t have a girlfriend.”
No? Gator said you did. Her heart leaped.
to protect her.
Jack’s throat tightened. “Gator’s lying. Did you believe him?” He’d planned to pretend, but her persistent questioning made it impossible. He didn’t want to invent a girlfriend and see her
upset.
His heart had already tilted.
“You’re not together? You don’t have
girlfriend?* Her heart pounded.
Jack hesitated, lowering his eyes. I’m pursuing someone.”
Alice’s face stiffened. “Oh… that’s… good!”
Jack regretted his words; how would he explain?
Silence fell between them. Alice ate distractedly, experiencing the bittersweetness of unrequited love.
Feeling uneasy, she excused herself to the restroom. Looking in the mirror, her eyes were red. She splashed cold water on her face..
Outside, Jack regretted his words; it was difficult to gauge the right approach. He’d seen through her feelings but had retreated.
Alice returned, avoiding eye contact. Jack asked, “Not eating?”
“Yes, it’s my housewarming. She stared at him.“Jack, what if you never get that girl?” I don’t know. Let’s worry about that later.”
Secing his expression, she guessed he still liked that girl. She felt envious. After dinner, Alice checked the time. Let’s buy some home goods and men’s shoes this
afternoon.”
“Why men’s shoes?” His voice was low, teasing.
Her face flushed. If I date, I need shoes for my boyfriend.”
Jack’s face darkened. “Don’t bring men here.”
“You’re a man, aren’t you?” She looked at him, smiling. She wanted to know what role she played
in his life.
Jack pondered.“I see you as a sister. That’s why I can come, but other men are different.”
pang of sadness hit her. “I don’t need another brother.”

Jack’s phone rang. “Hello?“…urgent matter…come down…” He hung up.“Let’s order home goods; no need to shop.”

“You’re leaving? Who
Jack hesitated.“Yes. I have to go.”
“Okay.”
An emergency?” She guessed it was that girl.
Alice felt a rollercoaster of emotions. He’d left for that girl.
She organized her Al materials. Furniture arrived; it was nicely arranged. She texted Jack a photo of the living room:“Great taste. I’ll transfer the money. He didn’t reply.
On the first day of school, Alice took a taxi to Harvard University. A black car followed.
Inside, Gator said, “Why are you following her? Why NOL go yourself?” Jack watched the taxi. He’d almost been recognized at the restaurant. Since Alice was starting a new life, he shouldn’t interfere.
Alice entered Harvard University. Her new life began. At registration, she presented her acceptance letter.
“Alice, you really treasure this letter. You were so angry about it being opened. It’s just a letter!”
Chloe, in designer clothes, approached.
Alice scoffed.“What are you doing here? You cheated and failed; you can’t even get into Harvard University!*
Chloe gritted her teeth. Luckily, no one knew them here.
Chloe smirked.“Good news: I’m a Harvard University student now.”

The readers' comments on the novel: Six Brothers Plea for Forgiveness (Alice)
This story is incomplete!!! You get us into the story then you leave us with a cliff hanger. Plus there's so many errors. It is obvious that English is second ( or 3rd) language. Author has mixed up names on several characters. Mixed up he/she , him/her. Made story too long by repetitive sentences. Made it look like the reader wasnt able to retain parts of the story by repeating certain aspects. I know authors do that but this author did it too often. This story lets you see what an eye for an eye would mean to some cultures. Needs MAJOR proof reading. Pro: great family drama. The one emotion you feel the most in this story is anger & discuss. There are a few funny (actually hilarious) parts in there. You want the good guy to win even though he may been at fault for something. You want justice for Alice and you want to see her independent from her brothers totally. I feel the author is on the right track but just needs to clean it up....
Except Alice's and Jack's names, all other names are mixed. And why there is LUKE'S FATHER instead of EATHEN...
I want yo ask that wht Alice's surname is keep on changing from Wolsh to Windham to Lu???? And Andrew to Garett? And Jane's name to Chloe as well...
