Alice’s eyes flickered with suspicion at Davis’s words. Seriously ill? She remembered Luke had a stomach problem. She hadn’t heard about any serious illness in her past life! But Luke did look 

thinner. 

Luke straightened, pushing Davis away. “I’m fine. Old problem.]*

[Davis, you talk too much.” 

Luke stopped Davis, looking at Alice. “I’m not here to plead. They made mistakes; they should be punished.]* 

Not pleading? 

Luke took a document from Davis [This Al project is promising. I know you’re a key figure at Maple Leaf, but 

you should go independent.]” [What do 

you mean?] 

[This is my company. I’m transferring all the shares to you. Develop the AI project independently. All the profits will be yours when it goes public.]” 

Alice looked at the share transfer agreement. She hadn’t expected him to give her the company! After the surveillance incident, Luke had seen through Chloe, regretting his actions and wanting to compensate her? 

Alice glanced at it but didn’t take it.“[I don’t need it.]* 

“[No, this is my choice. I was a bad brother. I didn’t notice you suffered so much, were tricked by Chloe, misunderstood, punished, and favored over an outsider.]” 

Luke pressed the document into her hand.“[I’ve signed it.]” 

Alice threw it away.“[I don’t want it!]” 

The papers scattered on the ground. Luke’s face was gaunt.“[Alice, I wasn’t a good brother, but I’ll learn.] 

“[Who you want to be a good brother to is none of my business!]” 

“[How can I make it up to you? I want to be better to you!]* 

“[Stay away from me.” 

Alice turned and left. Luke stood there, watching her disappear. His hands trembled as he picked up the papers. 

He crouched, unable to stand. Davis watched, heartbroken. He’d warned Luke about Chloe, but he hadn’t listened! Alice was independent; she didn’t rely on the Windhams. Reconciliation was difficult. 

Alice returned to the dorm, feeling uneasy. She’d always liked Luke best. Luke’s father was often away, short–tempered, and demanding; she’d been afraid of him. The third brother was always in the lab or hospital. The others had their careers; Luke was the youngest and often home. But it was Luke who’d cared for and raised her. 

In her past life, Luke had sided with Chloe. Alice had fragmented memories from that life.

She pushed those thoughts aside. She didn’t crave their brotherly love or their belated attempts at 

amends. 

Lying in bed, she saw a notification about an expired red envelope. Jack hadn’t accepted the 

money. 

Alice texted him:“[?]” 

Jack, in a meeting, saw the notification. He opened the chat, a slight smirk on his lips. He replied:“[How are the patches?]* 

Alice was surprised by the instant reply.“[They’re good. Where did you buy them?]” “[Take more when you run out. Get some rest.]* 

Alice thought he knew what she meant. He wasn’t answering her question! She sent an ellipsis, but he didn’t reply. She tossed her phone aside. 

On the weekend, the finals were at the stadium. Alice and her team headed there. Tickets were distributed earlier; they met at the venue. 

In the cab, Alice posted a picture of her ticket on social media:“[Heading to the game.]” In her past life, she’d competed in this game. It had been traumatic. 

Luckily, Luke’s team wasn’t competing, and Chloe couldn’t steal her victory. Chloe couldn’t take what she had now! She felt happy. 

Many fans were at the stadium, discussing the matches. Alice and Chloe greeted the team members outside; the seniors were inside, counting heads. 

As the match started, fewer people remained outside. 

Alice was about to enter when she saw the Windhams arriving. Chloe was with Luke’s father. Seeing them, she smirked, walking towards the stadium. 

“Alice, stop!”

blocked her. She turned, 

impatient. 

Luke’s father, grim–faced, approached.“[Forget the Al project. We accept defeat. But you’re suing Chloe and Sixth Brother? Do you have the face to tell Mom and Dad when you graves?]”

Luke’s father knew how to hurt her, to make her yield. 

Chloe feigned sincerity.“[Alice, we’ve had conflicts, but I always considered you family. I’m sorry. Please forgive me.]” 

Luke’s father was pleased by Chloe’s obedience. He snorted at Alice.“[Chloe’s apologizing. You should know what to do. You’d be disrespecting your parents and Chloe’s deceased father!]” Chloe’s eyelid twitched. Her father wasn’t dead. She’d keep that secret forever. It was her only leverage with the Windhams!
