When Lyra arrived at Jameson Tech, Rowan was out and hadn't returned yet. She sat quietly on the sofa in his office to wait, her mind still preoccupied with the departure of Fairchild Holdings' core R&D staff.
Andrea couldn't sit still, so she wandered around the workspace, greeting Wesley Wade and then Gabriel Grant.
Gabriel looked a bit surprised when he saw her. "What are you doing here? Did you come with the boss's wife?"
Andrea gave a slight nod. "Yeah."
"Why did she suddenly show up out of the blue?"
"I'm not sure. Why don't you go ask her yourself?"
Gabriel quickly waved his hands, laughing it off. "You're much closer to her. I'm not going to intrude. Besides, I heard you're the favorite over at Blackwood Manor."
They chatted and joked for a few more minutes.
About half an hour later, Rowan pushed the office door open in a hurry. His suit was dusty, and a glaring patch of blood soaked through the right sleeve of his shirt, yet his innate, ruthless arrogance remained entirely undiminished.
As soon as he walked in, Wesley followed closely behind.
Lyra instantly threw the idea of confronting him out the window. "How did you get hurt?"
Rowan brushed it off effortlessly. "I took a fall."
Lyra's eyes widened. "You? Took a fall?"
"It's just a scratch. I'm fine." Rowan noticed his wife had changed her hairstyle, wearing an elegant updo she rarely sported, which made her look fresh and refined. "What about you? Who did your hair? It wasn't like this earlier."
Lyra was in no mood to care about her hair right now. She had just braced herself against the sofa to stand up and demand answers about Quentin and York, when a pretty female secretary rushed through the door. Holding a first-aid kit in both hands, she hurried over with a frantic tone, "Mr. Jameson, please let me treat your wound first. If we don't disinfect it, it'll get infected."
Rowan paused, his gaze landing on Lyra first before he took off his suit jacket and rolled up his shirt sleeve. There was a nasty, jagged scrape on his forearm, along with several purple bruises. There was no way that came from a simple fall—it was clearly the result of a physical fight.
