The conversation shifted from nostalgic office memories to the booming tech industry and the strategic layout of the new tech park.
The others knew Rowan was spearheading a massive tech tower project. On the subject, Rowan commented, "Real estate is just the foundation; talent is the framework. The true lifeblood is a closed-loop supply chain. Rather than fighting over plots of land to expand sheer scale, I prefer dedicating a percentage of our profits to long-term technical lab investments."
Quentin couldn't help but sigh in admiration. "To be honest, for years I've idolized an industry pioneer who integrated AI with real estate tech early on. He predicted the industry trends over a decade ago. I've read his analytical papers countless times; they practically guided me into this field."
"Unfortunately, the great James operates completely under the radar. He rarely makes public appearances. Aside from publishing *Responsive Python: A Casebook of 1000 Algorithms*, he's a total mystery. I've never had the chance to meet him."
York nodded in vigorous agreement, his eyes filled with awe. "I avoided so many pitfalls early in my career just by studying his post-project analyses."
Rowan took a slow sip from his glass, shooting a nonchalant look at Quentin. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Lyra repeatedly wiping a thin layer of sweat from her forehead.
He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "Are you hot?"
Lyra shook her head with a faint smile. "No."
After lunch wrapped up, they shook hands once more before Quentin and his team headed back to Fairchild Holdings.
Inside the car heading back to Blackwood Manor, the atmosphere was quiet and mellow.
Rowan turned his head to look at the woman beside him. "Did you already know I was the 'James' they were talking about?" he asked softly.
Lyra stared at the blurring city streets outside the window, staying silent.
She hadn't held even the tiniest speck of space in his heart.
Rowan's chest tightened. He reached over and grasped her hand, his voice thick with regret. "Lyra, I'm sorry."
He used to be too ruthless, too detached. When he didn't care for her, he offered only cold stares, leaving her to navigate her anxiety and heartbreak alone.
And even after he fell for her, he only knew how to lock her by his side through force and coercion, completely oblivious to her inner turmoil. From start to finish, he had never treated her right.
"I am so incredibly sorry," he repeated, resting his forehead against hers. His breathing grew heavy, his voice turning husky. "I was blind, and I lost you. For the rest of my life, I'll make it up to you, okay?"
