She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 503

Lyra packed her bags and left for Jansville that very same day.

While she was shoving her things into a suitcase, Delilah tried to block the door, absolutely furious. "Are you running off to meet Rowan?!"

"No! I'm going to find Mrs. Sawyer."

Delilah crossed her arms. "And who exactly is Mrs. Sawyer?"

"She lives in Jansville. She's an incredibly wealthy older woman. Mom, I really don't have time to explain..." Lyra was practically vibrating with urgency. "She's worth billions of dollars, and I'm terrified someone is trying to scam her out of everything."

Delilah reluctantly stepped aside, still looking highly suspicious. "If you're lying to me, Lyra... If you are lying to me..."

"I promise I'm not!" Lyra gave her mom a hasty hug and sprinted out the door, heading straight for the airport.

By the time her flight landed in Jansville, it was already incredibly late.

She had to find a hotel for the night.

Her plan was to head straight to the Sawyer estate first thing in the morning.

The next day, she woke up to a steady drizzle outside her window. After grabbing a quick bite at the hotel's breakfast buffet, she had the concierge fetch her an umbrella and hailed a cab to the Sawyer residence.

The estate was just as elegant and historic as she remembered.

When Lyra showed up at the door, Mrs. Sawyer's face lit up with surprise. "Lyra... what brings you all the way out here?"

Lyra offered a soft smile. "I came specifically to visit you."

After a few minutes of polite small talk, Lyra cut to the chase. "Mrs. Sawyer, do you by any chance know Jasmine Ford?"

"Jasmine? Yes, of course. I knew her grandmother first, and then I met her. She's quite an impressive young woman. Why do you ask?"

"Mrs. Sawyer, Jasmine and her grandmother are not good people."

They had actually asked about the glove before, and Agnes had smoothly lied, claiming it was just a fashion habit she picked up abroad.

"Stop spitting lies!" Agnes's face drained of color. Her warm smile vanished, and she instinctively pulled her gloved hand behind her back.

Lyra tilted her head, genuinely curious. "How did you even meet her?"

Mrs. Sawyer was heavily involved in philanthropy and had a stellar reputation in elite circles. She had countless friends, so striking up a friendship with Agnes hadn't struck her as suspicious at all.

Just then, footsteps echoed from the hallway, and Jasmine pushed open the parlor doors.

"You?" Jasmine sneered. "Lyra Fairchild. Step outside. Let's talk."

Knowing Jasmine would likely try to get physical, Lyra stood her ground. "Why go outside? We can talk right here in front of Mrs. Sawyer. You only clawed your way into her life because you're after her billions."

In her past life, the Ford family had been incredibly wealthy, and with Rowan funneling endless resources their way, their businesses had thrived. They had never needed to target Mrs. Sawyer's fortune. But now, their empire had crumbled. The Fords were desperate. Of course they were making a play for Mrs. Sawyer's money.
