She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 450

"She used to be like a caring older sister to me," Lyra replied evenly, her voice devoid of any real emotion.

Andrea instantly understood. People changed, and a pretty face often hid a rotten core.

After a moment, Lyra turned the question on her. "What about you? Would you ever want to be her friend?"

"I don't make friends with venomous snakes."

Hearing that, the faintest trace of a smile tugged at the corners of Lyra's mouth. That small curve of her lips chased away the heavy gloom clouding her features, softening her cold beauty into something breathtakingly radiant and pure.

If she were a man, she'd definitely be swooning right now, Andrea thought. "You should smile more, Miss Fairchild. They say good things happen to people who smile."

Lyra offered a quiet instruction. "Take a few days off to rest at home after you discharge. You don't need to come back to watch me."

Andrea nodded in agreement.

After completing her discharge paperwork, Andrea didn't report back to the Jameson Group immediately. Instead, she drove straight to the intersection where the accident had occurred to investigate.

She methodically checked every security camera in the vicinity, only to make a chilling discovery—every single piece of footage from that stretch of road had been intentionally wiped clean. There wasn't a single frame left, not a shred of evidence.

That heart-stopping near-miss hadn't been an accident. It was a calculated, premeditated murder attempt.

Later, back at the corporate headquarters.

Standing before Rowan, Andrea delivered her report. "Mr. Jameson, if you truly care for Miss Fairchild, you cannot let Jasmine stay in Seaborne City. The moment she shoved Miss Fairchild into the path of that truck, she didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second. I ran a background check. They used to be incredibly close friends, but when she made her move, she showed absolutely no mercy. She is utterly ruthless. Unfortunately, the footage has been wiped, or I'd show you the video myself."

Andrea simply couldn't stand the memory of the beautiful, untouchable heiress standing there with red, tear-filled eyes, looking so profoundly broken.

Was it the stress of dealing with Jasmine making him like this?

Rowan hadn't slept. He had been tortured by nightmares all night.

In the dream, he had been cold and heartless, staring down at a sobbing Lyra. He wiped a tear from her cheek and sneered, "You're just as vain and materialistic as your parents."

The scene shifted, and he grew even crueler. "If I don't love you, I don't love you. You can't force it."

"What exactly are you trying to get out of me, Miss Fairchild? Tell me, and I'll change it."

Every single razor-sharp, unforgiving word Lyra was throwing at him now were the exact words he had inflicted upon her in his dreams.

When he had jolted awake from the nightmare, Rowan's chest felt like it was caving in. The parallel was absurd, as if he had been cursed by a ghost.
