She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 438

That was right. At the funeral, she had seen this girl from a distance. Amidst the chaotic crowd, she had quietly paid her respects and stood silently in the back, leaving a faint but respectful impression.

Mrs. Sawyer stepped back from the car door. Her expression smoothed out, and she calmly instructed her maid, "Invite her inside."

Once they were in the living room, a maid served hot tea and stepped back to stand behind Mrs. Sawyer.

Mrs. Sawyer had clearly been briefed by her staff. She looked at Lyra and asked, "You said you are Arthur Fairchild's daughter?"

"Yes." Lyra gripped the edge of her teacup, looking appropriately hesitant. "Grandma Sawyer, if you are planning to sell the land next to the Jameson Group headquarters... would you consider selling it to me?"

Mrs. Sawyer picked up her own cup, raising her eyes to study the younger woman. Her tone wasn't harsh, but it carried the heavy scrutiny of an elder. "From what I understand, Caleb is the one running Fairchild Holdings now."

Lyra instantly understood the implication. "That's true. But I have my own company overseas. You don't need to worry about the financing."

Saying 'don't worry' was a bit of a stretch.

The staggering price tag for the commercial plot had forced Lyra to take out massive loans to cover part of it.

"This is prime commercial real estate. It will not be cheap," Mrs. Sawyer warned.

"I know."

Lyra pulled out a bank card. "I can provide proof of funds right now."

Mrs. Sawyer asked, "Why do you want it? What are your plans for the property?"

Lyra knew perfectly well she was buying the land solely to put a chokehold on Rowan's expansion.

But her face remained the picture of calm. "It's the most valuable piece of real estate in the city center. Naturally, everyone wants it."

At that moment, an aide leaned down and whispered something in Mrs. Sawyer's ear. The old woman's tone shifted. "I heard you were engaged to Rowan Jameson. But that fell apart..."

Lyra's face lit up. "Thank you!"

Mrs. Sawyer smiled affectionately. "I have some errands to run right now, and I need to get the paperwork in order. I'll have my lawyer draw up the documents. My people will meet you at the property transaction office at three o'clock this afternoon."

Lyra nodded enthusiastically. She walked the older woman out, waiting until Mrs. Sawyer's car disappeared down the street before leaving the estate herself.

Since she had time to kill, she used her ID to book a room at a nearby hotel to rest and wait for the afternoon appointment.

Once settled, Lyra ordered some local specialties on a delivery app.

When the food arrived, she opened the packaging and took a bite of a traditional fruit cake.

Right then, the doorbell rang.

Lyra opened the door and found Rowan standing there. She instinctively took a step back. "W-what are you doing here?"
