After enduring countless grueling days in the hospital, Lyra's body finally healed enough for her to walk normally. The blissful day of her discharge had finally arrived.
Returning to the comforting familiarity of her own home, she found the place utterly spotless. Kayla mentioned she had already swapped out the bed linens for fresh ones. Lyra thanked her warmly, chatted for a bit, and then slipped into the bathroom for a long, luxurious soak.
She stayed in the tub for a very long time.
When she finally emerged, scrubbed clean and wrapped in a robe, Delilah stepped up behind her. With gentle, loving strokes, her mother carefully brushed through her damp hair, patiently blow-drying the long, silky strands.
"Just stay home and focus on resting for the next few weeks. Don't go anywhere," Delilah instructed softly.
"Okay," Lyra agreed with a gentle nod.
Truthfully, she had zero desire to rush back to the corporate grind anyway.
She drifted into the deepest, most peaceful sleep she'd had in months.
The time she had spent forced into Rowan's suffocating orbit had been the most agonizing, soul-crushing period of her second life. Now, she had finally broken free.
Pampered with three square meals a day and endless restorative soups, her body rapidly regained its strength.
When Rowan called, she stared at his name flashing on the screen and simply let it ring out.
Whatever he texted, she blatantly ignored.
After several days of this silent treatment, a new message popped up on her screen.
[Are you planning on ignoring me forever?]
[If you keep giving me the cold shoulder, I'm going to send you a little present.]
A heavy knot of dread settled in Lyra's stomach. Her intuition screamed that his 'gift' was going to be an absolute nightmare. Without a second thought, she deleted the message. She immediately ordered Liam to grab her ID and purchase a brand-new SIM card, determined to cut off Rowan's relentless harassment once and for all.
Liam was incredibly efficient, delivering the new card in record time.
Lyra's chest heaved violently as blinding anger consumed her.
Rowan nonchalantly reached out and stroked the back of her head. Driven by a dark, possessive urge, he leaned in, intending to capture her lips.
Before he could even close the distance, Lyra's eyes flashed with pure, unadulterated hatred. She hawked forcefully and spat directly at his face.
Rowan's reflexes were razor-sharp. He instantly whipped up his tablet, shielding his face just in time to block the vile projectile.
"Looks like your mouth isn't the only part of you that knows how to squirt," Rowan murmured, a wicked, filthy edge to his voice.
His gaze turned pitch-black. Tossing the tablet aside, his arm shot out like a steel whip, violently pinning her down against the plush leather seats.
Lowering his head, he pressed his nose against the delicate skin of her neck, his hot breath grazing her collarbone. His muscular arms locked around her like a vice, trapping her in the confined space, refusing to give her a single inch of breathing room.
Consumed by terror and blazing hatred, Lyra fought back like a cornered animal, thrashing wildly in a desperate, frantic bid to escape his suffocating cage.
