Jasmine unpacked her suitcase in her assigned room. Her mind drifted back to a beachside hotel three years ago.
Rowan had held her close, whispering that he wanted her.
But she was still a virgin back then, and if she actually slept with him, her entire web of lies would have unravelled.
So she had no choice but to reject him.
After that night, Rowan never brought it up again.
He had treated her wonderfully.
And Jasmine had taken it for granted.
She had always been proud and aloof, refusing to lower herself to flatter a man or shamelessly throw herself at him. She firmly believed they were a high-status power couple, and that true intimacy would naturally fall into place after they were married.
But she never expected...
She never expected Rowan to ask for a breakup.
Perhaps she had lived in safety for too long, growing numb and careless in her comfortable bubble, which ultimately led to the desperate situation she was in now.
If only she had been proactive sooner...
Regret gnawed at her chest. Jasmine gazed blankly out the window, looking past the dreary rain at the scattered private villas nestled in the hills.
A gentle knock on the door pulled her from her chaotic thoughts. The landlady's voice drifted in.
"Miss Ford, I brought you some mosquito repellent incense."
The landlady stepped inside holding the incense, a polite, apologetic smile on her face. "We're a bit short-staffed these days, so please forgive us if the service isn't perfect. Thankfully, the weather is supposed to clear up tomorrow, so you'll have perfect skies to view the lavender."
Jasmine didn't care about the lavender. The moment she saw Lyra, Maddie, and the rest of them, any desire to sightsee had evaporated, replaced by a suffocating weight in her chest. She asked, "Is Lyra Fairchild staying in this building too?"
Oblivious to the hostility between them, the landlady smiled. "Oh, those two young ladies wanted to be close to the dining room, so they picked the rooms just down the hall."
Jasmine asked, "And my boyfriend?"
"He caught a bit of the rain earlier and asked for an unopened bottle of shampoo. I imagine he's taking a shower right now."
Jasmine's heart gave a slight flutter. She suddenly realized her own dress was damp from the rain, but she had been too lost in thought to shower. She checked the en-suite bathroom—it was small, but exceptionally clean.
"What's wrong? Didn't pack enough clothes?" Maddie asked, rolling her eyes as Lyra immediately started digging through her closet.
Lyra frowned. "Why are all your clothes practically lingerie?"
Looking at the options, Maddie's dresses were obscenely short, barely covering her thighs.
Maddie scoffed. "Have we met?"
Lyra had no comeback. Her plan to borrow a decent outfit was officially dead.
Noticing Lyra's deep frown, Maddie asked, "What's eating you? Is it because those two showed up? You really don't want to see them, do you?"
"Do you?"
Obviously, neither of them did.
They chatted quietly for a few more minutes until Leo yelled from the hallway, telling them to come down for dinner.
When Lyra walked downstairs, Rowan had already finished his shower. His jet-black hair was still damp, holding a faint trace of steam. Dressed in clean, casual clothes, his entire demeanor was relaxed yet devastatingly elegant. In his hands, he held the exact same comic book that had Lyra laughing earlier. His dark eyes were lowered, completely engrossed, as if the noise of the room couldn't touch him.
