Kaden forced down his anger and gave William a few curt instructions.
William nodded, bowed slightly, and quickly left the room.
“Lock her up and have the doctor give her a thorough check-up. Make sure there’s nothing wrong with her.”
“Yes, sir!”
A couple of bodyguards roughly grabbed Shana and dragged her away to be locked up.
Shana was still in a daze.
She’d just heard Kaden say something about a doctor checking her for “problems.”
Problems?
What kind of problems?
She wasn’t pregnant—so what was there to check?
Did they think she’d been taking drugs?
Were they trying to see if she’d done something with Hector?
And what did any of this have to do with his death?
Shana’s head throbbed and every inch of her body ached. She slumped against the wall and drifted into a restless sleep.
Meanwhile, things weren’t much better for Celine.
She’d been withdrawn and sullen ever since coming home from school.
When she’d first heard the news about Hector, her immediate reaction was disbelief.
It had to be a rumor.
Someone had to be making things up.
With Hector’s background and family, how could he possibly be dead?
He was young, healthy, and nobody would dare lay a hand on him.
So the rumors couldn’t be true.
But when she couldn’t get hold of Shana, she started to worry.
She grabbed her phone and scrolled through the news about Hector’s death.
There were several videos—official statements from Veridia’s authorities.
That confirmed it. Hector really was dead. This wasn’t just gossip.
“He had it coming,” Frank said, raising his glass of juice in a private toast. “That guy nearly got us killed the other night. Guess karma finally caught up with him. I honestly thought we’d never see the day, but hey, sometimes the universe just takes care of things for you!”
“That’s why people say justice always catches up with the wicked, even if it takes time,” Stella added, nodding thoughtfully.
“Yeah,” Frank agreed. “Heard the Watson family’s demanding an autopsy. Kaden rounded up everyone who was with Hector last night.”
“Where’d you hear that?” Stella asked, raising an eyebrow.
“I’ve got my sources. Friends at the police station. Apparently, the worst off are those women who were with Hector—they’ve all been dragged off by Kaden, but who knows where.”
Stella snorted. “Well, his death is a public service. One less creep in the world.”
“Exactly, but keep it down. If anyone hears us...”
They dropped their voices and kept talking.
Sabrina stayed silent, quietly eating her lunch.
Shawn wasn’t eating at all. He just held a glass of champagne, his eyes occasionally flicking to the girl across from him—so calm, so composed.
The fallout from Hector’s death was still rippling everywhere.
Kaden had put all his business on hold, determined to get answers from Veridia, no matter what it took.
