“Who the hell is so ruthless? It’s bad enough they sent all these people, but dogs too? That’s just low…”
Frank was already in tears.
“Dad, my dear dad, I swear I’ll never skip class again. I promise I’ll study hard from now on.”
“Mom, my sweet mom, I miss you so much. I miss your cooking. I’m afraid I’ll never get to taste it again…”
“Big bro, my beloved big bro, after I’m gone, take care of Mom and Dad for me. And don’t forget to light a candle for me every now and then. I hear it’s dark where I’m headed—I’ll need to make some friends.”
“And get me a few more bodyguards… a house, a car, maybe a TV—don’t skip anything, alright? Ah, bro, see you in the next life… Waaaah…”
He sobbed like his heart was breaking.
His wailing mixed with the barking of dogs, echoing down the alley.
Stella patted his shoulder.
“You’re not dead yet. Save the tears for when you meet Saint Peter.”
Frank: “…”
Frank sniffled hard.
“I just needed to let it out. I feel better after a good cry.”
Then, at the mouth of the alley, a group of men burst in, running straight toward them.
One glance at their clothes and it was obvious these guys weren’t the police.
No way were they here to rescue anyone.
Both Stella and Frank felt their nerves shatter.
Honestly, just lying down and letting these guys finish them off seemed easier…
But the mob ran right past them.
They turned down another alley instead.
Moments later, the sounds of a much fiercer fight broke out nearby.
Meanwhile, the two guard dogs kept their eyes locked on Stella and Frank, never blinking.
And just their luck—
Suddenly, the wall they were sitting against gave way with a deafening crash.
They scrambled aside, stumbling and half-running to dodge the falling bricks.
Wham!
Both hit the ground at the same time.
Just then, a man in black hurried over and spoke to Burt with utmost respect.
“We’ve rounded them all up. What should we do with them?”
“Take them all back for questioning.”
“Yes, sir.”
Sabrina looked at her three friends, guilt eating at her. All this trouble was meant for her, but they’d gotten dragged in too.
“I’m sorry I got you all mixed up in this…”
She rarely apologized, but this time she meant it.
Frank finally pulled himself together.
As he got to his feet, he made sure to haul Stella up with him.
“Don’t apologize! If anyone’s to blame, it’s those jerks—picking on a girl, no less. Honestly, I should thank you for reminding me how precious life is!”
Everyone: “…”
Stella waved him off.
“I’m totally useless in a fight. That settles it, I’m signing up for self-defense classes. Sabrina, don’t you feel guilty for a second. If we got hurt, it was our choice—what are friends for, right?”
