She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 84

Sylvie actually cared about him. She helped him with his science projects and crafts. His mom just forced him to do everything himself, always talking about "building his independence."

Sylvie also told him all sorts of interesting things. Even though he didn't really understand them, and her explanations only confused him more, he still had fun listening to her.

Plus, Sylvie helped his dad. They worked late in the study together every night, and the house had been completely free of yelling for days.

When his mom was around, his dad was always annoyed and sometimes didn't even come home at all.

So it was better if she never came back!

Sylvie glanced at Herbert with a perfectly crafted look of hesitation, saying nothing.

"Dad, please let Sylvie stay with us forever!" Miles pleaded. He liked having her around.

Herbert paused with his silverware halfway to his mouth. He looked up, his gaze fixing coldly on the boy. "Miles. Stop throwing a tantrum."

A flicker of something dark crossed Sylvie's eyes, quickly masked by a forced, accommodating smile. "He's right, Miles. I can't stay here forever."

"But Dad, I want—"

"Miles." Herbert dropped his fork onto the table with a sharp clatter. "Are you going to eat or not? If you're done, go do your homework!"

Without waiting for a response, Herbert pushed his chair back, his long legs carrying him briskly toward his study.

The second the heavy oak door clicked shut upstairs, the dam broke. Miles burst into loud, heartbroken sobs.

"Wahhh! It's all Mom's fault! It's all her fault! I hate her! I hate her! I hate her!" Miles slammed his little fists against the table in a blind rage.
