She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 83

Miles' voice shattered the quiet atmosphere over the dinner table.

Herbert Jewell, eating with his usual immaculate posture, paused slightly. His chopsticks hovered for a fraction of a second, but his expression remained perfectly blank. "I don't know."

Miles slumped, deeply disappointed by the answer. "But I haven't seen her in so long. Can you call her and tell her to come home?"

Herbert gracefully resumed eating, his tone flat and unyielding. "If you want her home, call her yourself."

There was no way he was going to call Hulda. Giving in would only validate her bad habits. If he caved now, she would just pack up and threaten divorce the next time things didn't go her way.

Besides, he had already instructed Victor Yates to freeze her supplementary credit card and cut off her allowance. Once she ran out of money and had nowhere else to go, she would naturally come crawling back.

This time, she needed to learn her lesson.

"But Dad..."

"Eat your food." Herbert's eyes darkened, his voice dropping to a stern warning.

Miles' bottom lip trembled. He looked like he was about to burst into tears.

"Do you miss your mom, Miles?" Sylvie asked softly. She was sitting right beside him—in Hulda's chair.

She had noticed the boy's sour mood the moment they sat down.

So, the little brat missed his mother.

Miles looked up at Sylvie's face. "Not really. It's just... I'm not used to it..."

He wasn't used to going to sleep without a bedtime story.
