"I'm the heir to the Fawley family! You just messed with the wrong people!"
Caspian found the noise irritating. He glanced at his assistant. "Handle it."
Dylan blinked. "Boss, aren't we in a lawful society?"
Caspian looked at him like he was an idiot. "Then handle it lawfully."
"Got it!" Dylan cracked his knuckles and strolled toward the men.
Hulda stood leaning against the wall, her slender fingers digging into the brick. She was still hyperventilating, her ears ringing loudly.
Caspian stepped closer, casting a tall shadow over her. "I told you before, tears don't solve anything. Who exactly are you crying for right now?"
Hearing those exact words from the exact same man again made Hulda's breath hitch. Her pupils trembled.
Seven years ago, this man had spoken to her with a cruelty a hundred times worse. "Crying is useless. Tears don't solve anything."
"Just leave. Stop clinging to us like a stray dog."
"No one pities you. You just look pathetic."
The memories rushed into her mind like a flood. She quickly wiped the stray tears from her face, closing her eyes as she fought to steady her breathing and force the past down.
"Hulda..." Sienna's terrified whimper pulled her back.
"Sienna..." Hulda immediately composed herself and rushed over to the girl.
Sienna was frozen in shock, sitting paralyzed on the ground.
It wasn't until Hulda hugged her that she finally broke down into loud sobs.
"It's okay, it's over now," Hulda murmured, holding the violently shaking girl tightly.
The police arrived shortly after.
Dylan politely pointed to his torn shirt and the faint scratches on his face. He offered the officers a charming smile. "As you can see, officers, it was strictly self-defense."
