Not too long ago, Herbert had said the exact same thing to her.
As Justin's mockery hung in the air, the other men at the table joined in—some sneering, some chuckling darkly, while others stared at her with openly derogatory expressions.
Herbert just watched the spectacle with cold, indifferent eyes, making absolutely no move to intervene or speak up on her behalf.
Instead, he coldly tossed his car keys onto the table in front of her. "The car's outside. Go wait for me."
Swallowing the sick feeling in her chest, Hulda snatched the keys and threw them right back into his lap. "I said, I'm not here for you."
She didn't have time to stand here trading barbs with him. She had to find Sienna.
If something horrible happened to that girl, she couldn't even imagine the devastation it would cause Brandon.
But the girl wasn't answering her phone, and the bar was massive. Hulda was running around like a headless chicken.
Seeing her throw the keys back and storm off, the corners of Herbert's mouth dropped into a deep, furious scowl.
Justin, on the other hand, looked genuinely surprised. "Was she really not here for you?"
Herbert remained silent, his eyes tracking her as she disappeared down the hall toward the restrooms.
After checking the main floor to no avail, Hulda figured the bathroom was the best place to check next.
The moment she stepped inside, she heard the muffled sound of a girl sobbing.
"Sienna? Are you in here?" she called out softly.
The crying behind one of the stall doors hitched, but there was no verbal response.
Hulda walked further in. "It's Hulda. Do you remember me? I'm your father's colleague. We met when you were little."
The stall door cracked open just an inch, revealing a young face smeared with ruined makeup and fresh tears.
Confirming it was really her, the girl's composure completely shattered, and she began to sob uncontrollably. "Where's my dad? Why didn't he come?"
Hulda hurried over and pulled the trembling girl into her arms. "Your dad's at a conference out of town and couldn't make it back. He asked me to come get you. Tell me what happened. I'll handle it."
